Opinions and preferences are like **********, everybody has one.

Just because Gruber doesn't like big screened devices doesn't mean you won't.

I guess youll be waiting several months for a phone.

Thats not true either. They are fatter and you feel them when in your pocket. The reviewers noted that the iPhone 6 plus has great pocketability.

Putting thinness to one side it is still going fill most peoples pockets because of the width and length and forget tight trousers.

Gruber also says that if iPhone 6 was the only phone released he would have stayed with 5S because the 5S screen size is better than the 4.7 iPhone. he is biased against anything more than 4 inches because he shouted last time that this is the best screen size and anything more is wrong. He is clearly wrong and can't come to accept it so he has to say the 4.7 is good begrudgingly but can **** on the 6 Plus for being too big.

and for the love of God grow up. make your own decisions

He said that about the 6 plus. He is personally betting the 6

I was always against the larger sizes of phones when I had mi iPhone 5, but then it got stolen and I managed to get a Galaxy S3 to replace it, I initially was leery about the extra size of it. However, since then I've really grown to love the phone, as I don't really do calls on it that much.

However, since I don't have a purse nor really baggy/cargo pants (I don't wear skinny jeans either, I wear stuff that looks good - and that's not anything really baggy and sloppy), I couldn't get over the size of the 6 Plus as I had worries about how it'd fit in my pocket - particularly when sitting down.

Truthfully I'd love a size in between what Apple offers - something such as a 5.1 or 5.2" screen with smaller top and bottom bezels.

I think the Galaxy S5 is the perfect size. It is also the max size, for me, for pocket ability/portability.

I also think a 4" and 5" would have been a better transition for a company like Apple who have championed reach, use, etc (jobs philosophy). He would have never released a phone with a protruding camera IMO.

I also realize they are a business who likes swimming in bennies so they had to take a slice of the Android Note sized pocket. Some will get used to the 5.5" and demanding a 6" or 7" next. I, for one, want a 5" screen while reducing the bezels. I think Samsung has the best design in regards to screen with the S5 but I just prefer Apple's ecosystem. (Phone/pad/Mac/ATV)

Ugh, I respect his opinion, I've ordered two iPhone 6+, so they may get returned if he is right.

"A few days into testing the new iPhone 6 and 6 Plus, I accidentally left my personal iPhone 5S on a desk next to the iPhone 6 Plus. While my back was turned, the Plus tried to eat my 5S. It’s a monster."

don't worry about what others say, your lifestyle is what's important and if it will work with your lifestyle as yours may be quite different than gruber's

we all know that we like the iPhone 6 b/c we all have iPhones pretty much the same size so you did the smart thing by ordering he iPhone 6+ as you won't know until you try it, good luck!

Agreed. I'll try the 6+ for two weeks. If it doesn't work out for me, I'll just exchange it for the 6. I wish apple would of done more with the 6+ in terms of software. Maybe 6S+ will be the one to get. Kind of like when the first iPhone/iPad came out. The second version they did more with it. I always get the new iPhone every year so I would be fine if I do go the 6 route.

I currently have the iPhone 5. Upgraded to 6. The 6+ just seems too big for my use. But maybe not yours. If I'm wrong I'll try to swap it. Or when the "7" comes out I'll get the bigger one. You can't go off reviews or other posters. Only you can decide what's right for you

people come here for help, sometimes asking questions to just do a little brainstorming by getting others thoughts - if you don't want to help out then just don't write anything, you don't have a clue who this person is so not nice to call names, it can hurt people a lot more than you think

Thanks for the sermon, but look around and open your eyes -- most of the posts here during launch are based on insecurity in purchase or just flat out trolling.

If what John Gruber's preference in regard to phone size made you question your own purchase then I don't know what to tell you. There's no brainstorming to be had here, you buy whatever works for you -- if it doesn't then get something else. Hoping to ascertain personal preference which is inherently subjective by reading someone elses opinion is usually an exercise in futility.

Gruber is Gruber, he's not me. My old eyes need more screen. Even though I think he's about my age.

Everyone on the Android side says that it takes a little bit to get used to a large screen phone. So why is it that on the Apple side then everyone is expecting the adjustment to happen overnight?

They are saying large phone but really they mean Android takes some getting use to since you have to go through 12 screens to accomplish anything.

I'm 6'1, Medium built, owned the Note 2 and 3; loved the big screens and long lasting batteries, hated holding it.Purchased a S4 last year. Getting the iphone 6 and not the plus this time around.

Who's "Gruber?"

Who the hell is "pining" for the 3.5" screen of the original iphone? Seriously.
I am. However, since it's highly improbably that my wish for a 3.5" iPhone with iPhone 6+ internals and battery life will be fulfilled, I'm getting a 6+ to see if I can live with it. So far, the 6+ case I got passes the pocketability test (barely) on two of my hoodies so that's a plus (pun not intended).

It'll be perfect size. I got my case today and it's just as expected. Can't wait till tomorrow.

The iPhone 6 Plus does not have an out of proportion display. What is out of proportion is the hardware surrounding the display. Both the Galaxy Note 3 and 4 have larger 5.7 inch displays, yet the overall footprint of either device is significantly smaller than that of Bigfoot (iPhone 6 Plus). Why?

My thoughts EXACTLY. My sense is that they can't shrink the lower bezel due to touch ID, and probably can't shrink the top bezel due to the inclusion of NFC (complete speculation on my part).

Also, Apple seems to be fond of symmetry, so they may be resistant to shrinking the top bezel when they are locked in using a larger bezel below the screen due to touch ID.

I went to an AT&T store and fondled a Galaxy Note three and an LG G3 (which sports a larger screen I believe), and they felt not too bad. As soon as I printed off the 6 Plus dimensions and attached is to some cardboard, I could IMMEDIATELY tell how much taller it was going to be than those existing larger phones.

I went with the iPhone 6 this time, but in my heart wanted the iPhone 6+, but just could not do it due to those huge bezels.

I don't imagine there will be any changes to the casing or dimensions from the 6 Plus to the 6S Plus. I'm hoping in two years that the 7+ will be sporting a much smaller overall size by shrinking the bezels, and then I'm probably in.

It's certainly a personal preference, but it's interesting to see what most publications are writing: Recode, BusinessWeek, TheVerge, Engadget.

Everybody seems to agree that people who primarily need a phone should get the iPhone 6. People that want more than a phone and want to use one device for all mobile needs should think about getting the plus.

It seems that there are two different use cases for the iPhone.

Personally, I never touch my phone once I get home. I have an iPad mini and a laptop which I both use at home for different situations. I also take the iPad mini on trips or if going to the dentist office or something. Anywhere I expect to be sitting/waiting for a while.

I use my phone at the gym (in a spibelt) and I use it for driving directions but to me my phone is still mostly a phone and that is how I like it. If I need to look up a restaurant or something, it is pretty handy for that. In terms of other applications (web browsing, reading, etc), I prefer my iPad mini.

So yeah it really depends how you see your phone and your use cases for it whether you'd prefer the 4.7 or the 5.5. For me, the 4.7 may even be a bit big but I wouldn't want any bigger. For other people who want more of a phablet, the 5.5 seems like a really good option.

Yeah, I really think that's the thing. These big phablets are manageable to hold, but not exactly comfortable. So the question is how much that comfort matters to you.

Gruber is crazy. Who the hell is "pining" for the 3.5" screen of the original iphone? Seriously.

Me.

I would love that screen size to come back personally. With the rumors of the iPhone going to the bigger screen size I got an Xperia Z1 Compact which is 4.3" since it was the smallest actually good android I could find. It's at the absolute largest size I could use with one hand, and it's often more comfortable to use with two hands. So I would love there to be a 3.5" option out there again.

How is the Z1 compact? I'm of the same opinion related to screen size. (I still have my iPhone 4 because I thought the 5 was too tall.)

The Z1 specs seem leaps and bounds above the iPhone 6 and it seems to be the smallest full featured android out there. Really like that its waterproof as well.

The Z1 C is solid but that is all.
It is not much bigger than the 5s, but it feels ALOT bigger b/c it's boxy and a huge square. An htc one m8 feels narrower in the hand than a Z1 Compact. I promise this is a true statement.

Width is a very important determinant of how a phone feels in the hand.

The Z1 C has an inferior screen--lines are visible at certain angles, a lesser mono speaker that distorts, definitely inferior camera despite it being 20 megapixels. It also feels like a much bigger bulge in the pocket. Feel free to not believe, but the Htc one m8 feels like less in the pocket than a Z1C.

Gruber is right that his tone in his article sounded like he was going through the motions. He seemed to like the 5s better but could not because he's a professional Apple fan. But the true feelings in his heart came through in his article.
