FIX: 8.0.1 killed cell/Touch ID 6/6 Plus revert to 8.0 (instructions included)

title says it all if anyone care. Update back to 8.0 if you have a computer nearby.
DON'T FORGET TO BACK UP!

1) Disable "Find my iPhone": Settgins -> iCloud -> Find My iPhone -> turn it off
(this works in WIFI areas only, if you have no wifi, you may need to do a DFU restore, instructions at the bottom. You shouldn't have to with an update)

2) Delete the 8.0.1 update if present: Settings -> General -> Usage -> Manage Storage -> then look for the iOS update and delete it

3) Download the firmware (direct apple links):

8.0.0 (iPhone 6+/6 PLUS): iPhone7,1_8.0_12A366_Restore.ipsw

4 MAC) After downloading, on a MAC, you have to hold the ALT/OPTION and select update to bring up the option to select the older firmware.
4 WINDOWS) Hold SHIFT if using WINDOWS and select UPDATE to bring up the option to select the older firmware.

Fix confirmed working.

DFU Restore (some from iClarified)
1) Open iTunes and connect the iPhone to your Mac.
2) Press and hold the Home button and the Sleep/Wake button at the same time.
3) After exactly 10 seconds release the Sleep/Wake button. Continue holding the home button until you iTunes pops up a message telling you that it has detected an iPhone in recovery mode.
4 MAC) Restore the firmware by selecting ALT/Option and Restore.
4 WINDOWS) Restore the firmware by selecting Shift and Restore.

No, I didn't install 8.0.1. Learned not to beta test these things. People are reporting success

Could someone confirm that doing a regular restore will not target 8.0 instead of 8.0.1 with 8.0.1 being removed? Thanks.

Updated the instructions with everything minus just doing a simple update (not manually downloading the ispw) I need that confirmed.

yes

By doing a simple update, it may not work as you are on 8.0.1 and the the phone would see 8.0 as older. I have one person backing that up. You have to force it to upgrade and select the downloaded firmware.

Updating is faster than restoring and works in this case.

The only way I can restore is to put the device in DFU mode.

I downloaded the iOS 8.0.1 image from the iOS Developer Center and tried to do an option + restore with that, and got a "This device isn't eligible for the requested build", so I'm going to let iTunes try it with the image it wants.

Update: just checked the iOS Dev Center again, and they've pulled iOS 8.0.1. Only 8.0 is available from there now, and only iPhones 5s and down. No iPhone 6...

That's a pain. Work with 8.0 as that's the working version. I just tried and duplicated your problem with "find my iPhone." I hope DFU works, just make sure you select the right firmware and let us know how it works. I'll edit the instructions to reflect this.

If you're getting "this phone isn't available for this update," you're selecting 8.0.1 which is no longer being signed by apple. Just download 8.0 and you'll be good to go.

Added DFU instructions. I recommend finding a wifi location to turn your "find my iPhone" off.

You may have to use tinyumbrella to force it out. This is dedicated to iphone 6 and 6+

That is the correct firmware. I'm sure the selecting link will provide the same file. Are any other I devices connected to your iTunes? Can you verify that itunes says 6+?
