Leave the phone in your cart then update the pickup when you see a slot open up at a particular store. That's my plan. #

Going tip be in NYC on business this weekend and Monday. Are their inventories any better?

Well in one of my daily calls to the store, I actually got routed to Apple's central call center. While they couldn't give me specific details about the store I was calling about, they did confirm that not all inventory makes it into online reservations and that going into the store was the only definitive way to check on stock levels. Seems about as official an answer as I've heard.

I just got back from the Dallas Knox location. I got there around 9:15 and there were probably 20 people ahead of me. Store associates came out shortly after and announced there were no 6+'s which caused about 5 people to leave. As they went down the list with what they received for 6's, all but two people in front of me left because the only 64gb was gold and they didn't have much else for AT&T.

I also spoke with an associate that I've worked with in the past there and he said they are receiving 6+'s but not many of them. Last night they got one T-mobile 6+ and it went to the overnight pre-order. He recommended the best way to get a 6+ is online pre-order. He also expects that after this week the inventory should get a little better because of the international launches.

I called all local Staples, Best Buys, and Targets too. Nothing for 6+...

I gave up on the online inventory checking since it never seems to update and just walked into a local Apple store yesterday. Employee told me that they typically get a few every day and they have a couple people waiting in line each morning. Said that if I was line by about 9am, I would probably get one.

So I went this morning. Got there around 7:30am. One other person in line. Employee came out at 8am to tell us what they had. Only SG 128GB for AT&T. I had originally wanted a 64GB gold but figured I could sacrifice my color choice for double the space. :)

Have it on reservation and will be picking up in a few hours.

Glad to just be done with this easter egg hunt.

Dallas knox actual had a 6+ 64GB space gray last night available for pickup around 1:30am. I don't live anywhere close to that area though so I didn't get it. Within about 5min though it was gone

Woohoo, just snagged a 128 Gold at best buy on Roosevelt road in Chicago!

It's on Verizon so I paid full price, now let's hope it works on my AT&T account.

Can you post if it actually works. I've done it in the past and the lte doesn't always work

Hello All, I haven't posted on macrumors in quite some time as I am also generally a lurker (when I have the time) who enjoys this community, especially when it's near time for new Apple product releases. This year would be my first iPhone ever depending on if Apple released a larger screen size. I was also going to switch carriers from T-Mobile to Verizon regardless.

I knew of the lines on launch day and even the online pre-orders. However, I knew I needed to see the phones in person before purchasing. So I skipped the pre-order time and hoped to get a phone at Verizon on launch day. I thought being #13 in line would have assured me my choice of phone. In the store while waiting, I determined the 6+ would be the way for me to go. Needless to say, Verizon didn't get many, if any, 6+ Space Gray 64GB. There were no 6+ whatsoever except for gold, here and there and those were gone. (I was kind of ticked that I wasted my time when I asked specifically if there was enough stock given my place in line and was told, yes, by two different employees.)

Anyway, I ended up ordering over the phone on launch day and the expected ship date was 10/31! Couldn't do Apple because they did not offer the single line plan that I wanted and Edge had to be done in store also. No pre-order for pickup in store for me with Apple and Verizon stores basically told me that they weren't getting anymore phones until the backlog of pre-orders were filled, 3-4 weeks at best. Ugh!!

THANK YOU, THANK YOU, THANK YOU to whomever posted about idevicechecker! I had gone to Best Buy this past weekend looking at the phones and I discovered that they could do any plans and options that Verizon offered, so it was just a matter of them getting stock. They had not received their Verizon stock at all since launch, so it was a matter of time. I was checking another inventory site that was posted (can't remember the name, but it was wrong a lot), so I missed when stock came out mid-week at BB.

Yesterday, I was off and saw that stock was available in 3 BB's all 2 hours away. There was stock in other colors locally, so I checked those first and they all stated that they didn't have what I wanted. I debated about the drive, but called the stores anyway. 2 of the 3 said they didn't have stock, but these people didn't even bother to send me to the Mobile department, so I couldn't be sure. The last store said emphatically yes, they had stock, but "only a few left".

Since it was midday, I took the drive from Chicago to Kalamazoo, MI and got my phone. I called an hour into the drive to make sure they still had phones (I witnessed a woman buy 3 Sprint iPhone 6+ earlier! so I knew inventory could get zapped in one buy) and again 20 minutes before getting there so I could cancel my Verizon pre-order. The BB employee who helped me was awesome. My number was ported over and working before we were done, plus she moved my contacts and photos from my Samsung Galaxy S3 to the new phone.

I'm glad I did it and I am so glad I held out for the Space Grey. I love the black front, especially with my red leather case. Two hours is nothing to me since I can spend an hour getting to work some days and I take regular road trips to visit family in other areas of the state and St. Louis. When I made it back I went direct to my nearest Apple Store and got Apple Care.

Long story, yes, but my whole point was that I found the idevicechecker site (while still not perfect) to work for me and my situation since I couldn't go Apple and I thank the informative poster and the site owner. No more waiting until the end of October for me. This morning, I checked idevicechecker and still no stock locally for the Verizon SG 64GB 6+ and the BB I went to yesterday is now sold out.

Definitely don't rule out Best Buy. They seem to get stock in randomly. Apparently Sprint customers were having a hard time finding phones and BB had those in stock about the same time as the Verizon phones. There were also gold 6+ Verizon phones at the BB's in the South Loop and out in Downers Grove on Butterfield Rd - not sure about today though.

Good luck to everyone and thanks again! ;)

Does Target not allow people to buy phones at full price? I don't have an upgrade on my line and I wanted to pay outright, but all the stores I called said they don't allow sales without an upgrade.

Anyone know if BB or Target will sell the phone as device-only? (w/o contract, full price)

For the people who have stood in line, I had a question for you. I've heard Apple employees survey the line a little bit before the store opens. How soon before store opening do Apple employees survey the line? My store opens at 10 but I also have an appointment tomorrow at 10. If they came out 30 minutes before opening, I would still be able to make the reservation to pick up later and still get to my appointment on time.

Mine opens at 10 as well, but they normally come out at 8 to address the line.

Hey guys, i'm going to be in New York the day after tomorrow. I was wondering if anyone could tell me what the situation's like there.
How early should I be at the apple stores there if I want to get an iphone 6? Are there still huge lines?

BB will for sure. Someone came in the store and asked and he was told yes, but there would be a $50 charge on top of the phone cost.

Northern California Apple looks pretty dried on 6 and 6 plus in space gray in their online inventory, haven't seen any pop unless I missed it

Can you post if it actually works. I've done it in the past and the lte doesn't always work

So far - it seems to be working!!!!

Here's what I did - I backed up my current phone in iTunes.
I removed the SIM card from the Verizon phone before powering on - I was sooo paranoid that I'd accidentally power it on!

Removed the SIM from my AT&T phone.

Put the SIM in the Verizon phone and powered on - it now shows AT&T! I'm currently restoring from the back-up - hoping the "phone" part all works now as expected.

By the way - they had two more of these this morning.

Yeah, but we already knew that. Apple.com has showed the T-Mobile version of space gray out of stock for my local store for 4 or 5 days but when I went to the store and asked about it, he said they have had stock this whole time. I think if you are close to an Apple store, using personal pickup at this point doesn't make much sense. Maybe in a week or two when they are fully stocked.

If you have a chance check your lte speeds. Mine were topping out at 6-8mbs

I don't believe they do but you never know. I would call to see.
