Looks fine to me. In my opinion, it looks better than the 2 pieces of glass on the back of the 5 and 5s. That was a stupid design in my opinion.

Lol at the poll results. Just as I expected everyone loves the bands now that it isn't a rumor anymore.

99% of people hated them just a few weeks ago. I was trying to explain that everyone always overreacts until Apple announces it but no one listened.

Perception and reality often differ. Human nature. Nothing new.

I've grown to like them. Saw an iPhone 5s yesterday, this makes the thick black plastic on both sides of the 5s look disgusting.

I have no issue with them. First, it's just an aesthetic thing. It doesn't interfere with my using the phone. AND...I'm GLAD they are there. I couldn't care less if the antenna bands were all over the back of the iPhone. Reception comes first.

...and yet mimicking the look without glass is fine?

This thread is proof this forum is full of fanboys who will support and prop up Apple no matter what. Show some common sense, the lines make the back look ugly and disjointed. The very fact the lines are still a subject of discussion is proof enough that they are an issue.

Then why even have a metal back if reception comes first, lol? Just another case of Apple choosing form over function.

Agree. Had an iPhone 1. Hated the 3G because of the cheap plastic back.

Would he? Ive isn't a fashion designer.

Well I do believe Ive is aware of fashion and Apple products and even a quick Google search from a book about Ive states:

Jony Ive: The Genius Behind Apple's Greatest Products [Leander Kahney] on ... his enduring legacy with this comment “(Ive) introduced the concept of fashion to ...

I think they are hideous. I'll live with them but I'll never like them. I don't know why they just didn't go with this.

Many here say the same thing about not looking at the back of their phones, so how come Samsung are so derided for having polycarbonate rear casings? Nobody seemed to mind the 3GS having a plastic back...

You don't look at it but you still hold it. For me, the plastic backs of the Galaxy phones don't feel as nice as the aluminum of the iPhone

Most put their i6 in a case due to the protruding camera, because they don't like the look of the antenna breaks, or to prevent the phone from bending....so of what benefit is the aluminium rear casing if most don't even see it?

The bands are not the most elegant looking solution, but they would not prevent me from considering buying the iPhone 6/6+.

I much prefer the antenna bands to the glass panels on the 5/5s. They were way worse imo.

Thoughout the leaks I wondered why they would have two separate pieces of metal on each side. Usually they just need to separate out cellular and wifi– only two pieces, but the 6 has 4 separated areas. The reason is to add a third antenna. It looks like the very top one is for NFC (most convenient place for Apple Pay). The one right below that is cellular, and wifi is on the bottom. The bottom has the same design even though it needs just one piece, for symmetry.

Everyone would have preferred a single line on the top and bottom, but I believe this design has a purpose.

*100% speculation :)

Fair point, but there's still a world of difference between an industrial designer like Ive and a fashion designer.

I put mine in an Apple case but not for any of those reasons. As I said earlier I think they work as a visual reference back to the front of the phone. They balance the bezels visually and conceptually. But they're also a functional necessity, so the solution is fairly elegant.

Ultimately beauty is in the eye of the beholder. I don't find them distasteful at all. It seems to me that evaluating the design of the device is about looking at it as a whole, not fixating on some arbitrary factor like the bands or the bezels etc..

One thing I have noticed is that before the iP6 was announced, the mock-ups had these lines. ALOT of people were saying "Oh those are so ugly!" and "Jony Ive has lost it if those are in the final design!" Now that it is final, people love them!! Come on, people!! Lol!

Honestly I don't even notice them anymore on the space gray...but then again I rarely look at the back of my phone.

They don't look so bad when colored to match the phone. The gold is pretty hideous though.

So glad the space gray is color matched... Looks sexy with the gray bands vs. black bands yuck.

No... Just no. It looks too similar to the predecessor 5 series. I'm glad they didn't follow this.

People were quick to brush off this issue saying we are going to love it after it comes out.

No.

Pretty much every person who reviews the iphone 6 mentions it saying it just does not look pleasing.

Design is important for me. And now thats it out and im holding it, it just looks horrible. The lines are thick, and gives a toy like look, very amateurish. Me and many many others have voiced concerns.

It just looks tacky. No other apple product has this kind of uneven incoherent design. In fact most apple products have this plain, simplistic minimalistic design where as these iphones we have now have a busy design, the look seems interrupted and broken.

The lines suggest a deformation and lack of consistency. Seriously what were they thinking? It is otherwise a very sleek and well built (the bending issue aside because I consider that an anomaly, a minor initial production issue which will certainly be fixed).

Before anyone says but we need the technology. Of course we need the bands for all the wireless specifications. But other phones have similar features but dont look that bad from the back, just look:

I don't know about you but I prefer to look at the front of my iPhone 6 Plus, not the back. I don't understand the obsession with the back of the phone. It has a couple of antenna lines on it. BFD! When are many using the phone I'm pretty glad those bands are there.

No *****. This obsession is getting ridiculous. I hope Apple makes the next phone with bands an inch thick and green. It will be blast watching heads explode here on the forum.

This design would have been acceptable.

Why dont people understand, which other Apple product has these thick lines, in fact with other product in the industry has such thick lines?

And how is it that everyone likes it? This is a hardcore Apple forum yet 40% dont like the bands, everywhere else this number will be much higher.

Well if most put their phones in a case then what's the point of complaining about something that you aren't going to see anyways. I'll admit it's not the best looking design, just saying that it doesn't bother me as much
