GTX980 finds it's legs

Went from 29.9 fps (V-Sync locked?) to 48 in Valley.

Big jump.

Will run a Titan as well.

Anyone interested in power draw?

Hopeful I will figure out what the magic CUDA driver is for this card/OS.

May be yet to come.

openCl still MIA, going to guess Nvidia wrote it.....Apple is "checking it"...gotta keep that D700 sparkling.

Titan was around 1450 in osx, and 2250 in windows on extreme hd preset on 3,1.

CUDA works, only 64-bit, at least on gm107.

OpenCL needs a works, maybe patching their nvidia libs

Definitely interested in power draw... might it provide us with some clues as to if the future Maxwell-based Titans could be powered with 2x 6-pins and without needing a secondary power supply?

Titan in Yose

This is standard Titan, not Black

EDIT: Added R9 290X. Outside of myself and Netkas, no one else will have this running at PCIE 2.0, so expect slightly lower scores if DIY.

It's not said that the problem is related to the nVidia GTX9xx series. Some people in the posted thread are able to get 4K@60Hz with full Color-Bandwith.
So it might depend on the collaboration between used TV/Display and the graphics card. Looks like some "old" Samsung TVs are causing problems.

4K and Ultra-HD are very new features and so there are still a lot of problems. Most depending on the individual combination of out- and input-device. Even the new Mac Pro is very choosey in regard to the display – some work perfectly, others work with limitation, some completely reject to show a picture.

So in my opinion it's very difficult to get a working 4K setup, most devices have some problems with some others.

There are that many aspects which can cause the issue.
  • graphics card
  • graphics driver
  • operating system
  • cable
  • TV/display firmware
  • TV/display connectors

Hey, got back in LA late last night. Just chucked the GTX970 in and it works !!!

So, my shipping guy likely had power cable not snapped in or was using OSX stock drivers, etc.

Time to dig a little deeper and start looking at rom.

Hopeful that we can do an EFI, no promises though.

Thanks again to our green friends at Nvidia. These are some awesome cards for out cMPs !!!

Could you please tell me how you managed that? Which Yosemite Version did you use and what version of the Web Driver? And which bootloader? Did you use any boot args?

I know, much questions, but i'd really appreciate it if you could answer them all :D

cheers

Ran my 2006 Mac Pro all day yesterday with my new GTX 970 with no issues. Purchased Logic X and installed it with no issues and new Yosemite drivers for my Apogee Ensemble it worked great.

Just don't zap your pram as it will change the card prefs away from a Web driver to default and then reboot is impossible. This happened and I had to remove the 970 and boot from the dongle with the original GT 7300.

Pretty cool beans!

I tried it with both cards in but it would only boot after the freeze with the 970 removed and the 7300 placed back in slot 1. Kinda weird but there you go.

Hi,

This may be wishful thinking on my part, but will this work on a Harpertown 3,1 2008 Mac Pro? I'm currently running a GTX570 which runs one 4K monitor and another at 1600P but I'd like to run two UHD.

Thanks

It's good to know that we have friends in San Jose.

Latest Beta Yosemite Web Drivers have GTX980 support !!!

You can literally order one from Newegg and use it.

We will be offering versions with better support when we have time to work on them.

With any luck we will have EFi figured out, at very least PCIE 2.0.

For now avoid GTX 970, as it isn't in the drivers yet.

It seems there is no OpenCl yet, and I have not been able to get any indication of CUDA yet as CUDA-Z doesn't function in Yosemite. (unless you use new 64bit Beta)

A short family visit has turned into a very different experience and I have had to rely on my partner back in LA to do testing. Will do more thorough report when I am able to return to LA.

EDIT : 970 DOES WORK !!!

OH, did you pick up the 970 from OEM or from MVD?

Thanks
