Well, you learn something new every day, 2 things on some days. I just learned today that I am old (in another thread... 29+ age category is considered old), and now thanks to CNN, Just found out I'm RICH!

5:00, Time for me to head home folks and enjoy my lavish lifestyle!

I'm a black male making over $75K, and grateful for it; but don't consider myself rich.

I was in the Apple store today and there were a lot of different racial groups in line and in the store. That's one of the things I like about going to the Apple store and I think it's kind of cool, but that's another subject.

Today is a good day. I just found out I'm rich<sarcasm>. Income >/= 75K WOW!!! when did this happen? I too am an educated(chemical engineer) black male. The title of this thread is totally misleading.

What constitutes rich? I'd consider myself rich compared to the vast majority of the world. I.e. I don't have to worry about where tomorrow's food is coming from.
That said, this article is a load of rubbish.

I guess "rich" is subjective and relative to the individual. There's millionaires who dont consider themselves "rich" because they're conscious of billionaires.

I read a couple years ago that if you made 75k you made more than 70% of the population.

Only 2% of the population makes more than 250k

More than 1/3 of the pop makes 34k or less

and 76% of the population has less than 1,000 saved.

So if you're making 75k it's safe to say you're in the minority. If they equally divided the population into thirds of poor, middle, or rich. 75k-80k would probably fall in that upper top third. 40-65/70 k would probably be middle and less than 40 is lower/poor or whatever you want to call it.

This is roughly true, if you go by the IRS statistics. People don't realize just how many people in the US make less than 40k. I wouldn't call 75k rich, but it truely is in the top 30% or so. And I believe over 250k puts you in the top 1%. The middle 20%, which you would call middle class, is from roughly 30k-60k. The people who are thinking you're only rich if you're making a million a year or whatever, the percentage of people making that are <.1%.
