Highly doubt that.

5 years ago you had 2GB plans and family plans for around 10GB. Now you see 100GB. If normal data usage 5 years from now is 250GB for families and 15GB for individuals, you don't see them increasing the throttle to keep up with the times?

No, they want you off them. It's not moving from 5 Gb. Book it.

No. There's no reason or benefit for them to increase throttle limits when they can offer plans with more data for higher prices and have customers pay more. Being a "loyal" customer with grandfathered plans doesn't mean much any longer.

Gave up my T-Mobile unlimited data and switch to AT&T's 40gb mobile share plan. Finally fed up with too many dropped calls and no data @ T-Mobile. It's not worth it, even for unlimited.

The only reason AT&T will stop throttling unlimited data plans is if the FCC forces them somehow. I'm guessing there's a good chance the FCC will so they have this limited time double data promo to get as many users off unlimited as they can.

Anyone that switched to the 20gb see 25 as max lines? I'm seeing I'm able to add 25 lines to my plan. I thought it was only business plans that were up to 25 lines starting from 30gb?

For anyone like me that wants to return an iPhone on contract bought from Apple and reprocess it under ATT Next, my Apple store could not do it. However, ATT can do it at a corporate store. Apparently they have a deal with Apple now where they can do a return at the ATT store and then you can repurchase it under Next.

Any way to return phone bought full price and repurchase with next?

As long as it is still within the 14 day return window you will be fine. In my case, I needed to process the return/refund/re-purchase on NEXT from the same source the phone was originally purchased from… so preorder from Apple = return to Apple store.

2 iPhones with unlimited data.
2 250 SMS text plans.
2 feature phones
Plan: Old 600 min/mo with rollover.
Cost: $133/mo

Subtract two simultaneous upgrades (interleaved year over year)
$34.17 = $98.83/mo

Subtract $9.99 for three added lines = $68.86/mo

Since the new plans have unlimited minutes and SMS, I won't be concerned with that. But for $68.86, I am getting 10GB/mo over two separate lines, at which point there is a throttle, but you can keep on going.

Never gone over the minutes (have over 4000 rollover, and it never seems to go down) Never go over on SMS - Thanks to Apple's iMessages.

To get the exact same thing, I have to pay $70 more. Though terms of unlimited get applied to minutes and SMS, but not data.

To add another line and iPhone to our old plan, it costs $30 minimum and $45 max. ($30 = 300MB, $45=5GB, don't know if we can grandfather unlimited.) New grand total, is $178/mo

On the new Family share plans, the total is ~ $208, as told to me by AT&T.

The "Double The Data" is a promotion. It's meant to get you to convert. So after some time, the data goes back to normal.

My question. Why would I want to pay more? Just because I have unlimited data, AT&T does not let me use Wi-Fi hotspot. Also they won't allow Wi-Fi calling. If they do indeed throttle, (never experienced it) all it means is I will reach that level sooner. Again, why the miss-treatment?

Yep. I have two lines, but the points are very similar to what you're saying here. We don't have any texting on our plan. We use iMessage, send texts as email, etc. Once in a while we receive a text and pay .20 each, but this adds up to less than $5 a month even on heavier months. They used to offer 200 txts for $5 a month, but we said we would add that if we ever paid more than $5 per month average. Ever since iMessage and other options, we pay LESS for texts.

As for things like Wi-Fi hotspot, who cares? I have unlimited data. Unlimited minutes? Don't make me laugh. Do you want some extra rollover minutes? I'll send you a thousand or so. I have about 5,000 in reserve. :D

We have unlimited on my line and 2GB on my wife's line. If I did even the 4GB plan, we would pay about $50 more per month, which would actually be LESS data for me, even if you count mine as 5GB (before throttling).

I'm not trying to convince anyone of anything, by the way, just pointing out to those of you who think those of us on unlimited are idiots who are throwing away money, that in some cases Mobile Share would be a TERRIBLE idea.

Ok att you win. Take my unlimited plan this is a better deal.

The family share plan is a bad move if you have 2 to 3 lines. I have 2 iPhones with 700 minutes, 2 unlimited data, and I pay for unlimited text, both 2 year contracts. After discount I pay only $137. Even if I added another line and added a 3gb data plan I still come out way cheaper. This offer doesn't do anything for us. It's mainly targeted to multiline families. So AT&T attempt to get lower line users off of unlimited failed in this group. If it wasn't for the $15/$40 line chargers than I might be tempted. I'm hopping the unlimited user count gets so low that it will no longer be an issue with AT&T. But I'm just dreaming.

We have 4 lines and we get a 28% FAN discount on primary line and 28% discount on each line of data so it's not worth it. We have 2 teenagers and like the fact we don't have to worry about overages. As far as throttling, my iPhone feels the same when I'm throttled I guess. I didn't even know about throttling until I started to read it here. Between our 4 lines we use 40-50GB/month.

Our bill is $217 NET and I'm comfortable with that amount having unlimited data. Won't ever give it up unless I'm forced off. Also like how we are still eligible for upgrade pricing on a 2 year contract and still able to retain our grandfathered stuff.

Do you mind saying which FAN discount you're signed up for?

Yeah, I just upgraded to the 30 GB plan. Its a great ****ing deal, since I get to eliminate Smart Limits and it only ends up being only a few bucks more expensive than my 10GB mobile share plan. This data capacity is just unreal. I couldn't run this out if I tried.

I can. It's darned easy to use up 10GB on Netflix in just 2 days. :p

Just like ANYTHING in this world, one size does not fit all. I'm not sure where everyone read that the Mobile Share plan was for everyone and finds the need to tell why it sucks for them? Hopefully, each individual is able to figure out if it offers value to their specific set of circumstances and make the decision to switch or not. Those with discounts can't really compare to us normal folks when saying how this plan sucks for them...

Those with kids and teens (my older teen can do 2000 texts in 10 days but not make a single call) can consume lots of different stuff than older adults that may do more voice and data than text. Different strokes for different folks.

Stick with unlimited if it makes sense for you, but for others Mobile Share is a great deal. I gave away my unlimited for this plan, and moved all my family phones from Verizon and now I am saving about $80/month. For me, it made sense.

Why? It's not an unlimited data plan to begin with. It never was. It's throttled hard after 5GB. Which means it's a 5GB data plan, called an unlimited data plan. Plus you can add devices, and create mobile hotspots, and you know, actually have an unlimited data plan, because 30GB, that's unlimited.

Excuse me, it is an unlimited data plan. They won't charge you overages over any amount of data. Try that with your 30GB mobile share.

However, advertising has never ever been unlimited speeds. The small text at the bottom of all AT&T advertisements always detailed that speeds were subject to change depending on congestion/capacity. Don't believe me? Go read a contract from those times and it is clearly marked.

People now a days don't bother to read what they sign. That is why we get so many idiotic and inane comments like the quoted. Oh and by the way, AT&T doesn't mention how much data you need to consume before being throttled.

Also I fail to see how in your world of sunshine and ponies 30 = unlimited. Last I checked 30 is 30... and unlimited is a quantity that is vast, indefinite, unrestricted, and boundless.

So I checked out the 30gb data plan for $130 from ATT and for us I don't think it is such a good deal. Maybe it will benefit people that didn't have the unlimited before I guess?

Right now we have:
2 lines
unlimited data
700 minutes
Roll over minutes
Unlimited text
Unlimited mobile to mobile
Unlimited minutes after 7pm
2 iphones: iphone6 128GB and iphone6+ 64gb
$160 a month

The new 30gb plan:
2 lines
Unlimited talk and text
2 iphones: iphone6 128GB and iphone6+ 64gb
$210 a month with 2 year contract/$230 with ATT next

You're being literal, rather than practical.

How do you come up with $230 on ATT NEXT? Wouldn't it be $130 + $15 + $15 = $160/mo? I assume you are currently not under contract so with NEXT you get the lower line rate of $15/mo per phone.

anyone selling the rights to their unlimited account on ebay? I see some are going for 5-800$. I care about my phone number too much to loose it.

Because for some reason when people compare their current plan to Next they decide to add in the phone payment to their next plan bill which doesn't make sense to me, but I keep seeing people do it.

I was actually asking Nolegirl01, but assuming you both are on the same track, then lets compare apples to apples, because the 30GB 2-year contract price doesn't have the upfront cost of the phones factored in, nor the fact that on the 2 year contract, you're paying $40/mo per line for service, compared to $15/mo for NEXT. Calculate out 2 YEARS of total expenditure and you'll see on the 2 YR contract, you're spending about $150 MORE per phone. NEXT is cheaper than contract over 2 years.

PLUS, it's not clear to me if Nolegirl01 already has the phones or will be buying them, because that definitely affects the "what I have currently" for $160 price. None of these examples seem to be comparing the same thing. The $160 example shows new iPhone 6's, but does not factor in the cost of those phones..

NEXT is the cheapest way, since you get 0% financing on the phones, small monthly payments, the lowest $15/line rate and no contract. $160/mo, two new iPhones, plus the cost each month for the phone installments, no upfront.
