Best IRC client?

Mozilla's "Seamonkey" has an IRC module, I find it easiest to use of all the IRC clients I've tried, not sure if it can do what you want.

I have used X-Chat Aqua in the past. The most recent incarnation is in the App Store as X-Chat Azure.

And if you're so inclined you can download the source and compile it yourself for free.

I like Colloquy. As already mentioned, Colloquy is free to download.

I use Textual now, which I'm very happy with.

I use LimeChat which is available for free on App Store. I am not very much into IRC but LimeChat works like it should. Never caused any problems to me.

+1. Textual is awesome. LimeChat is quite good too (it's free), though I found it lacked a few features that Textual has.

That makes sense: Textual is a modified version of Limechat.

XChat Aqua is good and free

Textual and Lingo

I've used Textual for quite a while, and just noticed folks talk about Lingo (which is free in the Mac App Store). Lingo just submitted for a huge upgrade to 2.0 three days ago, it'll pop up soon.
