I've searched and found discussion on this from the past but nothing very recent. I know in the past, AT&T iPhones had to be opened and activated by the original purchaser before being sold. So people would run into the screen requiring the purchaser's zip and SSN to proceed.

Is that still the case with the newer iPhones and versions of iOS? Or has AT&T stopped requiring that? Only for contract purchases?

If it's still required, how do other people sell "sealed" devices without opening them first and lowering the value?

Appreciate any help.
