I am super impressed by the N9 hardware and Meego software. Too bad its dead on arrival and won't get a single update anymore since Nokia is dumping it for WP7 :(

Yea that's true and unfortunate. Hopefully they'll come around, what needs dumping though is Symbian.

MeeGo = DOA

Gone before Nokia even gave it a chance.

But the design of the phone isn't bad. Like Nokia took cues from the colorful iPod minis/nanos and its own N8. I like the variety in colors just like the iPod nano line. Nokia adding some colorful flavor from a Black Sea of phones.

I like the look of it, and it looks like it performs well. It is a pity they have stopped the linux/meego os in favour of win7 mobile. I've tried the non apple smartphone with BB and i think im to far into the mac os sphere to have anything other than an iphone!

It looks like a bigger iPod from Apple with the iOS theme Suave HD.

I really like that design... And the different colours makes it pretty sexy.

There will probably be a phone that can dual boot MeeGo with something else. Remember the N900 was able to run Maemo and Android.

I'm really impressed with maemo 6 GUI ("meego 1.2"). I love the concept of the three columns for messages, apps and windows.
What i don't understand is why the hell Nokia didnt fire Maemo on all cilinders 2/3 years ago.

If the N97 2 yrs ago had more up-to-date hardware (it was seriously lacking on that front) combined with Maemo, Nokia would have had a real winner on its hands and enough time to build further on that succes. Now it seems too late for Meego to go anywhere.
Still i'm hoping the N9 / N950 will be enough succesful for Nokia to keep developing MeeGo and put resources in it.

The N9's design i personally dont really like. Those curvy "pillow" shaped forms...bleh. I prefer the clean forms apple is known for (with the exception of the 3G & 3GS).

The aluminium N950 I like much more though, and i'm still one of these guys that prefers a real keyboard. Too bad they didnt use the glass space below the screen for 3 touch buttons. One for each column. That would have made this phone's interface perfect.

Atleast it doesn't look like another iPhone rip off, but very interested in the WP7 version. Get to ditch my work blackberry soon. :D

The design of it looks awesome. I love the different colours. I wish the iPhone came in red, blue... That type of thing.

I bought one this week after months of deliberation. It is a personal taste thing, but this is the best smart phone on the market right now IMO. It's build quality is wonderful, it's form factor is better than the iPhone (a big call, but I've owned both now and it's an informed opinion), and the OS is superb. Much has been made of the Meego/Harmattan debacle, but let me say this without ambiguity:

Harmattan on the N9 is the most elegant, beautiful, intuitive OS ever to be put on a phone.

After a few days with it, my feeling about this is only stronger.

I spent a few hours messing with one at the store, and then picked up a new iPhone 4Gs. The iPhone felt clunky and awkward in comparison. This is a big call for me, because it has been my opinion for a long time that nothing comes really close to the iPhone in form or functionality. However, the N9 has done it. I really encourage anyone interested to actually check one out for themselves and forget reading uninformed opinions about it online. After only a few minutes you will, like me, be sold on it's elegance. Everything else feels bad after it.

I've used three iPhones (2G, 3G, and 4G), and an Android, as well as a slew of other pre-smart phones, and spent about an hour messing around with a Win 7 HTC. Android is unresponsive, bloated, and difficult in comparison. Windows 7 is ugly, awkward, and incomplete despite all the publicity and Elop's manic (and suspect - he's ex MS and owns millions in MS shares) support. iOS is slick, robust, and beautifully fluid, but is locked down by Apple. That nice wad of memory you have is useless outside of the App Store. The N9 is gorgeous in every department, and I have full access to the memory without any silly messing around. Plus I get to ditch iTunes - a big selling point for me as I've always disliked it, and it only gets worse with each iteration.

So, I can't really say any more. Fanboys won't listen no matter what is said, but if you're even slightly interested in the N9 I guarantee you won't be disappointed by it. I'm loving mine. Best phone I've ever owned.

MeeGo had great base and fundamentals it still required a LOT of fine tuning... which unfortunately it's not going to get.

This guy highlights the weaknesses nicely,

And there are a lot of those little annoyances, like not being able to copy text in the Twitter app, no Skype video, etc...

People keep saying this, but it's not entirely true. It's already had two updates and another is on the way. The number of apps is growing, and Alien Dalvik will open all the Android apps to run natively as well.

Have you actually picked one up and tried it? You need to. Until you do all the theoretical opinions people are offering are pretty useless. I own one, and I'm telling you, it's awesome.

I'm just annoyed that it cost $600/£400+ whilst sporting a processor from 2010 and a GPU from 2009!

That's a reasonable gripe. The price point is a bit high, and I see that as another ploy by Elop and co. to undermine any chance of its success. It will come down though.
