This can turn out to be a problem. When specific brands are made generic (e.g. hoover, qtips, pampers, vaseline, bandaids) they can get forgotten in competition. They may still hold a good position but it seems more out of inertia than anything.

The other thing you are forgetting is that Google markets to the ads community and that is how they get paid. So getting paid by marketers because your marketing strategy is that good IMO makes you the best marketer. They have become the medium for ads.
