My macbook air disk speed test.

I know but I watch the videos on you tube with the same Macbook and sam test and they all go around 450 write speed and 725 read speed and one even went 650 write speed.How come mine is lower
Mine is a 128 GB SSD and they are a tad slower than a 256 GB or even more so than on a 512 GB. My numbers fluctuate higher or lower all the time. I don't worry about it, since my boot time is around 9 to 10 seconds and shut down is about 1 to 2 seconds. Everything else is just fine. Yours is OK, so don't worry about it.
It all depends on size of drive and brand of vendor. I've used a 128 Samsung which hit over 600 but most of the newer 128's are SanDisk and they ar around 300 or so. You are in the normal range.
Those are speeds that get reported for 128gb SSDs in the MBAs all the time. Those are normal speeds. The 256GB and upwards have faster write speeds in particular.

This means you have a SanDisk ssd, they are known for being the slowest ones...
Mine is APPLE SSD TS0128F Media, which is the Toshiba drive which is the middle one speed wise.
The fastest ones were the Samsung, but they are apparently not used in the 2014 model anymore.
Not sure how you feel about exchanging your macbook, but it might be worth doing. On the other hand, there is no guarantee that the next one won't have the same SSD
Holy crap, any of these SSDs are 2-6 times faster than a hard drive at sequential reads and writes and hundreds of times faster at random accesses.
Instead of downloading 3rd party programs to try to think of reasons to return your Mac, how about you just be happy that you have an awesome laptop?
I bet you $1000 that if you didn't run this stupid benchmark program, you never would have known that you got a "slow" drive and it would have made zero difference in your life.

I just wondered why the test showed my SSD as being slower than average, I can't say it's a deal breaker. Swapping it is impossible anyway as it was the only one with an English keyboard (I'm a Brit expat in Turkey).
Once replacement drives become available I'll be upgrading to a bigger one anyway, for now I'm enjoying not using Windows so am happy regardless.

There's basically no technical reason why your read speed would ever be slower than your write speed so if I had to guess, something was running in the background messing up the test while you were running it. I think if you run the test again you'll get different results.
