First of all I know there is a long thread on hardware issues and fixes after water damage but couldn't find any posts about similar symptoms on Retina MBPs. Also the thread is very long and it is hard to get any clear info. So thanks for reading my post and maybe trying to help me
I recently bought a water damaged MacBook Pro 13" Retina Display Mid 2014. The reason I bought it is it belonged to a friend, everything works except battery and charging and I got it for 250 Euros.
A beaker of water was spilled on the keyboard in the science lab and the machine immediately turned off. It stayed wet for a couple of hours before being being dried.
My friend brought it to an Authorized Apple Reseller where it was fully dried and cleaned (that's what the guy at the shop said he did).
Now everything works except it will only work on power adapter and shows the battery as not charging (but the battery is still detected).
Now I'd like to figure out what I need to replace to get the machine charging and running on battery again.
The magsafe seems to work (as the machine works on power adapter) so it is unlikely to be the reason (although I'm not a specialist on water damage issues).
I am not sure if it is the battery that is faulty or the IC chip that controls power and charging (I think ISL6258A from what I read).
As I said, the battery is detected by the mac and shows all the detail in system report. It is also detected by the apps coconutBattery and Battery Health Monitor. The weird thing is those apps detect it as charged (at around 80%) but the mac won't start on battery. Also the battery is reported by the mac and those apps as not charging.
I did a lot of online research and from what I read it seems to be either a faulty battery or a faulty IC power chip (the one that controls power and charging. ISL6258A? That was the one of the last MacBook Pros before Retina).
I cannot immediately post pictures so that one of you could maybe see a damaged chip because I am waiting to receive the P5 Pantalobe screwdriver from ifixit and am hoping to receive it before leaving on vacation.
Does anyone have info on these symptoms? Or had to deal with similar issues and fixed them successfully (or not)?
