So need to update my 2009 iMac which has started struggling of late. Was about to get a 27' iMac with a GTX780 4GB GPU, when the retina iMac was announced.

Not a lot of difference in the price plus fusion comes as standard BUT have read much on the forums about the new M295X card not being amazing when it came to gaming.

I am not a big gamer but I do play alot of Eve Online. Will the new retina iMac cope with something like that...don't want to pay £2k & get a machine that is no good for something I use if for 70% of the time.

Anyone with any experience??

I'm sure it will cope, but no way will it play at retina resolution. Wait for the GPU benchmarks to hit, though.

Eve should be fine, as long as you run around 2560x1440. Not a chance you're playing at full resolution.

Here is the m295x so far in Mac games tests compared to the GTX 780m, and Mac Pro with D300s.
Do note that Tomb Raider uses new OpenGL 4.0, while Diablo 3 is still on 3.2.

Bare Feats said Diablo actually worked at full 5K resolution, with frame rates in the 30s.

Yup, which is interesting. It would mean that Diablo 3 has no issues with higher resolutions.

It would help in Barefeats actually said in what way Tomb Raider wouldn't run, like if the game just doesn't support the resolution at all or if was crashing when attempting to run.
