I accidentally discovered that if you pinch closed with 2 fingers and a thumb in Safari, you can shrink a tab down to the multi-tab view, making it easy to swipe the tabs away to close them. Although I am quite sure that many others are aware of this, I have never seen it documented anywhere before, so I thought I would share.

You don't need three fingers. Just pinch with two (extra fingers don't hurt, though). Mac OS X Yosemite does this too, by the way (so did Mavericks).
