Order NEC PA322UHD WITHOUT software/hardware calibration (not recommended)

The PA322 UHD is due to ship in December, but I hope to have a unit for review in November. A 32-inch display has a viewable image size of 31.5 inches diagonally.

I’m feeling strongly inclined to return the iMac 5K for two reasons. First, the PA322UHD will suit my needs much better over time, even though it is “only” a 4K UltraHD display. Second the iMac 5K is woefully expensive once configured up, has a number of limitations, and the 5K screen while gorgeous for viewing has a very high pixel density which is not looking all that friendly for tweaking images at a detail level.

Basically same panel with NEC expanded color and backlight additions. Probably still same DisplayPort 1.2 MST connection from Mac Pro , but possible a slightly better panel controller.

Priced in same ballpark as 5K iMac. If internal color lookup table (LUT) , 10-bit color, and wider gamut backlighting are far more important than just raw number of pixels then it is probably a reasonable trade-off.

I'm seriously considering one. I already have the spectraview stuff.
I wish it were 1/2 the price :eek:

Thanks for the link - lots of great info. I instantly fell in love with that 40". I'm perplexed why apple never re-made a 30". I'm not willing to accept anything smaller.

Available Now?

I recently noticed that B&H indicates the monitor will be available on 01 DEC 2014. However, there is no mention of 4K on this or NEC's website.

The article title clearly states it will be a 4k monitor, but even within the article, the only mention of 4k applies to the 24" monitor.

Thoughts?

I wish the iMac was able to be run as a sundry monitor for the MacPro, so much more bang for your buck!

I can see that. Last week I moved my dock to the left of the screen so I could add an extra inch of bottom real estate. I feel that with a 32" 4K display 16:9 won't be that much of an issue because of simply how large the screen is.

Not likely to happen, at this point. The industry has moved to 16:9 by and large, I don't think they're going to pivot back.

The PA322UHD 32-Inch Professional UltraHD 4K display is here and attached to my 2013 Mac Pro. Setup was flawless; absolutely no configuration or special action required, just plug and go. The PA322UHD runs at all resolutions at 60 Hz, as it ought to.

There are system bugs too (not unique to the PA322UHD). At scaled resolutions, the native resolution is not reported correctly.

The 2013 Mac Pro has no trouble driving both the PA322UHD and a PA301W. No adjustments had to be made: connect the cable, boot up, job done, no issues whatsoever.

Where do you see that? I'm not entirely sure that's a bug. On high density displays, resolution is measured in points, not pixels. There are ways to get the native pixel count, the software in question just needs to be upgraded to support that. But the measure of how big the desktop is on the screen != the pixel count of the display.

Who has acquired a larger than 30" pro monitor? Still interested in hearing form pro video and photography users.
