is ipod touch 5g still worth buying ?

« iPod touch
I really need a non-smartphone multimedia device, my phone is too old and smartphones are the way too expensive for me. I want to get 5g but its 3 years old technology in 2 years old device. So I wonder is it still good device to go for ?
To answer your question, in my opinion, I think the 5th gen is worth buying especially with Black Friday coming up. I thought I heard rumors of a 6 gen, but it will probably be a while before its actually made.

I got a 5th gen for Christmas last year, and I love it. Smartphones are way too expensive for me, but I need something to store my music and such on. iPads definitely aren't good for taking on walks (not that I would try that)!

The only thing that I have an issue with is the 16GB only has a camera that is facing you, and cannot be switched to the other camera. the 32GB and higher have both cameras.

Good luck in whatever you decide.
Heck yeah. I bought mine two years ago, and still use it on a daily basis. I use it primarily for listening to podcasts and as a camera, but it has a thousand other uses. Its small form factor means it's always close to hand, so it's my go-to device whenever I need to do something around the house.

I have an iPad Mini 1 gen, so that means I have a A5 chip. Pretty fast. Bought it last year. But I faced the same problem you faced. I needed a media player. Bought a iPod Nano 7 gen and absolutely love. So if you need an iPod Touch, get it now. Processer is great!
Just be warned it may not get any updates past iOS 8 so if you can live with that go for it.

Also note that your battery will be shot in 2 years, mine is barely 2 years old and the battery only lasts a little over 2 hours before it hits red, then it's time to charge.

I wouldn't pay more than $200 for one, and I would make sure that comes with a retailer gift card.
Bought mine a few months ago.. speedwise.. it's like an iPhone 4 on ios6. it's not the end of the world but not fast either.. the biggest issue is RAM.. i can barely keep apps in memory to multitask and things refresh/reload.

Compared to A6 devices, it's noticeably slow.. so it might also be worth looking into getting an used iPhone 5

As to is it worth buying, I say yes. Especially if you have a good size music collection and you don't have a higher capacity iPhone. I have both an iPhone and a touch and I use them both extensively. With iOS 8 I frequently use my touch to answer my iPhone calls when it is not in the same room.

Despite what some others say on these forums I think it is a great device.

they time it perfectly, but lol its not THAT bad as you say it is.

My old iPhone 4S which i use as an international phone (because its unlocked) goes out in about 4-5 hours if i constantly use the internet, location services, etc etc basically power consuming apps.

which isn't bad, considering my 4S is about more then 3 years old by now.

There are Android smartphones for prepaid services that make excellent multimedia devices that cost far less than an iPod Touch and offer more capabilities (for tailoring the device for multimedia playback).

There's also Windows Mobile phones (like the Lumia 520) that readily sell for $50-75 (no contract) that are quite outstanding as multimedia devices.

These no-contract/pre-paid phones don't need to be activated with the service, and provide microSD card support so that you can get a killer portable media player for a fraction of the cost of an iPod Touch.

Touch batteries also cannot be changed because they are soldered in (I haven't seen many battery change services for iPod touch and those that are around cost significantly more than iPhone service) iPhone batteries for the most part can be changed (they are not soldered in) so you just need the tools and don't lose the screws..and there are services on eBay doing this for as little as $15. You could probably get a local shop to do it for like $40, cheap enough.

iPhone batteries are also higher capacity than touch batteries, especially when you use iPhone without the phone.

I went ahead and ordered an iPhone 5c from eBay, we will see how it goes.

There is a $10 android phone at target right now, the zte zinger, which can be used on wifi with no SIM card.
Thanks to all. I will get it, I can stuck on ios 7. I don't really have high expectations like latest games, or the fastest device. Just need something fill my app gap. If moto's and lumias would be as cheap as usa, I would get one and use it. And the battery is for every smart devices problam I think, next week my brother will be at usa, I already told him to get one for me.
I bought one a couple of weeks ago. Serial number says it was made in June 2014, came out of the box with 7.1.2. It's good, I'm happy...

go for a used iPhone 5. Buy now while past generation iPhone prices are way down. In a few months, after the 6 has been out for a while, older iPhones will become expensive again.

Also you can save money buy buying a sprint model, or if you don't care about where it comes from, a bad esn model.
I second Apple Nerd's suggestion and getting a used iPhone 5 from Sprint (or even Certified Pre Owned Refurbished) is cheaper than a iPod touch 5th generation.

And Sprint iPhones 5's are eligible for free service monthly.
Yeah I haven't gotten it in the mail yet but I got an iPhone 5c 32gb from eBay for around $280 which I think is good. I asked the seller a bunch of questions before buying and it was used with a screen protector and a case so I should be safe. If I have to have the battery changed at some point I will do that at one of the places here that does that. I didn't get a blacklisted ESN I went for the real thing to be safer.
