I got a GTX 970 and put it into my Ubuntu (14.04) test box: 270kPPD with 213watt from the wall (i3-3.3GHz), nothing else in the rig. Impressive for that little card. :D

Now I tried to use the same driver 343.22 on my main rig (2xGTX 780) and broke it. Recovered to former driver, but the GUI got impacted. Can only use a terminal window; no useful UI; but hey: that's enough for folding. ;)

I'm seriously consider to retire the GTX 780 and get one for 970; moah points, less energy and heat (but unstable supply of WU potentially, as mainly 9201 works)

Wow that really is impressive, especially for the overall power consumption!

You'll get us over the 2 Bn mark in no time! :)

Not really, whatever I put in my rig, you guys still keep yourself ahead of me ... But that is good for the team :)

And only 33m points to go !!

Nah, you'll pass me for sure when bigadv ends and I pull the plug on the big rig...

until then, I'm going full steam ahead!

i wonder why best buy doesn't have any 970s or 980s?

last month we had over 92 million points as a team, our best month since Feb 2014, and i think our 2nd best month ever. this month is looking even better!

we also had over 24 million last week, our best week in a long time, and hopefully this one will be great also!

keep folding!

GREAT JOB and congrats to all our team members in the past and presence: after only 13 Month we achieved our 2nd billion points produced in the fight against cancer and other nasty diseases. Thank you very much for all your contributions.

Congratulations!

I have a question. According to my notes, team MacRumors was averaging over 4,000 work units per month and over 2 million points per month as of a year ago. Now the rates seem to be over 16,000 work units per month and over 78 million points per month.

Is that really true? if so, is it due to faster GPUs, a larger team, or other factors?

We have about 70 active folders at the moment, but I don't have a comparable statistic from last year.

It's mainly because of GPUs and the so called "Quick Return Bonus". Some members run multiple systems with multiple cards. Of course also the Linux-Big-Adv work units are generating good points (until end of Jan 2015).

thanks, Doctor Q! and congrats to the team! we've come a long way!

i wouldn't try to correlate the number of work units with the number of points. there are several different type of units, and the number of points is based on how long it takes to complete (for most units).

last year, we got to 1 billion due to bigadv units, which required lots of fast cores. then the requirement for those units increased, but gpu points went up some.

we pushed to 2 billion off mainly gpu points becoming worth even more points. a few members are still pushing out bigadv units, but the requirement is about to go up even more.

at this point, gpu folding is the way to go. the number of work units completed has gone up due to being able to fold in google chrome on older hardware.
