Hello Cindori and thank you for your reply!!

I have downloaded "Sapphire [Mac]" but this doesn't seem to work! You have a couple more "radeon hd 4870 diamond" and "Diamond OverClock" but download links are not working. Can you please sent me these roms?

XFX 1GB 4870 Works perfectly

rom is not mine:
https://forums.macrumors.com/posts/7324217/

congratz for first 4870.app success :D

I can confirm that the ROM in the above post works perfectly for my XFX HD4870 1GB. The sticker on the back actually has the following product code.

The sticker says "HD-487A-ZD HD-487A-ZDDC VA.0"

I am running 10.7.5 on a Mac Pro 1,1 and the card reads as a 4870 1024mb in System Info.

I searched around this forum and the internet for like 10 hours in total before finding the ROM in the above post.

Thanks to all who made that ROM.

Can someone do me a huge favor and add the EFI to this rom for me please?

First of all, pipomolo, netkas, MacVidCards, and everyone else who has been running this project who I left out; thank you for all the work you have done!!! This type of programming is way beyond 99% of the kids capabilities on here, including mine.

Now, since every download link is dead everywhere on the internet, I just need to find 4870.ROM from page 5 of this thread with the EFI on it. If that sentence doesn't make sense, then I'm a lost cause. My card has the same rom on it as plastiksmoke's (RV770.rom). Tell me this isn't impossible. Can I try using 666sheep's modded sapphire rom from the previous page with positive results?

please just read the threads, what is the point of all of these experiences being documented if every new person comes here and says "please spoon feed me my own private answer?'"

There is a HUGE value in having the results from so many people. I have 8 different displays to test on, but the Mac community as a whole has MOST of the displays that exist. Use that incredible volume of individual reports.

Search and read, the wonder of a user forum.

Hi there,

I've been trying and trying very hard for my 4870x2 (since I saw some screen captures here with this card recognized on mac pros I don't wanna give up).

It's been days and nights since I try to flash this idiot, but no way. Here is the pc4870.rom I got with pipomolo42's writing method..

I've read many things here and many pages (not all), and other forums as well, but no way.

If someone can look at my rom and tell me what went wrong, or just tell me to forget the 4870x2 it would be nice.

Otherwise I'll lose all my neurons trying to figure out how to flash it..

PS : also, is the original mac 4870 rom I attached the right one ? Cause most of the link to download it (cf. netkas for example) don't work anymore..

Chaps - Relatively new to the 3,1 MP world

8800GT threw a wobbler I am seeking replacement found this 1GB XFX ..

Q: Do these tend to break?
Q: Would I require Apple specific power connectors ?
Q: Does this REQUIRE firmware flashing to work ? (I understand EFI requires flashing)

Apologies for infuriating Q's probably already covered .. so much to read through !!

I am pretty new myself to Mac Pro.
Just managed to flash successfully a PC HD 4870 card with boot screen and all working well and quiet so far.
Base on my reading so far, my answer to your questions as follows:

Q2: Typical mini 6Pin to 6Pin cable for cMP will do.
Q3: Works on my Yosemite without flashing (but without boot screen).
To flash - follow this thread #1. Get the Mac ROM (4870.ROM) and script (fixrom.py) from the thread.
Before flashing, backup your own rom (pc4870.rom). You will need it as well for the step mentioned in Q3.

For this, I follow the Step 1 from this thread.
Ensure all your rom size is 128KB.

I cannot guarantee what I said is correct as I am newbie but the above steps works for me.

Made a working EFI (EBC) rom for that specific Radeon 4870

Radeon HD4870 1G Dual DVI
PN 288-20E85-230AC

Available here - http://www.computersolutions.cn/blog/2015/08/flashing-an-ati-4870-for-macpro-11/

Also attached to this post.

Zip includes:

Original rom for that card (original.rom). The 4870 EFI MAC rom (4870.rom) , my patched rom (newefi.rom), atiflash.exe, and fixrom.py in case the other download url's go bad.
Copy all the files to a bootable dos disk, and flash the relevant rom (newefi.rom) to your card with atiflash.
