Has anyone attempted to mod the cpu a recent imac?

People have done it on iMac models that have socketed CPU's there is surely multiple threads on here somewhere.

Saw this:http://www.bhphotovideo.com/c/product/1060510-REG/intel_bx80646i74790k_core_i7_4790k_processor.html and was thinking if it has the same socket...might work in a late i7 3.5 iMac.
In 6 months when the price is in the 200's might not be too bad.

I believe it's not just enough for the socket type to match there will be other factors that will come into play. But that's best left to the people that have done this sort of upgrade and no more than me.

Might want to refer to this document:

https://www.ifixit.com/Guide/iMac+Intel+27-Inch+EMC+2639+CPU+Replacement/19630

I would make sure to read the comments section at the bottom of the page that refers to the reapplication of the thermal paste. Hope this helps.
