Hi everyone!

Early Sunday Morning I snagged myself a Late 2012 2.3 i7 mini and it arrives tommorrow! I already went shopping and purchased the apple wireless keyboard and magic pad. As an alternative keyboard I also purchased the Logitech K750 for mac which is a full sized keyboard that is wireless and solar powered.

I currently do not have a monitor for the mini and was looking around for options. At work I have dual Dell U2412Mb which is a great 24in monitor at 1920x1200. This monitor can be had for around 250/275$.

I have always wanted an Apple Cinema Display but those are out of my price range but was searching around ebay/craigslist and see the 24in LED ACD with iSight going for around 300$. These displays look great and would match the mini perfectly. There is a local one that I will be taking a look at today after work for slightly under 300$. It is my understanding I will need a dvi to Mini DP cable to be able to use 2 of these monitors correct?
(Monitor 1 = mini display port)(Monitor 2 = HDMI-->DVI-->Mini-Display port)

The last one that caught my attention was the Dell U2415 that looks really good and has the same if not more connections than the U2412Mb plus the addition of USB 3.0 and much thinner bessels. The down side is this one costs between 300-330$ each.

I am 75% set on getting that Apple monitor tonight if it looks great after doing some tests on it. If it looks as fantastic as on the pictures then i'll be 100% set on getting it :)

I also understand the ACD is atleast 5+ years old and that may possibly cause problems down the road.

Am I making the right choice or should I stick to the Dells?

Thanks for your time.

I'd get the Dell 2415 or 2414H - check out these reviews:

http://www.tftcentral.co.uk/reviews/dell_u2415.htm
http://www.tftcentral.co.uk/reviews/dell_u2414h.htm

I'm thinking of replacing one of my old monitors with one. Review says they have a light anti-glare coating - I hated the heavy coating on older Dells, HP etc IPS screens - and no monitor buzz noise.

Only downside I can see is no DVI port. There's some disagreement about this but I think you'll have to get an HDMI to Displayport adapter to drive it at 16:10 from the Mini's HDMI port which you have to use for a second monitor.

Another one to look at is the Eizo EV2455 - this is a 16:10 monitor and TFTcentral have just reviewed the 16:9 model:

http://www.tftcentral.co.uk/reviews/eizo_ev2450.htm

They've got DVI and VGA ports and I have an older Eizo that is the best monitor I've ever had. Eizo is now offering much better prices on these.

With the u2415 I can plug in the monitors via:

display 1= mini dispaly port--- to---- mini display port
display 2=HDMI---------------to---- HDMI

This should work right as this monitor has both mini display port and HDMI.

The 2012 mini can run 1920x1200 through both lines using this setup right?

Yes. I'm running 2x Dell U2410 displays on this Mac Mini, both at native resolution. No issues whatsoever.

Hi everyone!

(Monitor 2 = HDMI-->DVI-->Mini-Display port)

You can't do that. You cannot convert HDMI/DVI to mDP; only mDP to HDMI/DVI.

Pre-2014 Mac minis cannot run two mDP monitors (though I think it can run one TB display with an mDP display daisy-chained off of it as long as there's another TB peripheral in between).

The 2014 Mac mini, however, can run two mDP displays (I'm running one with a 24" HP 1920x1200 display port monitor off each of two TB ports).

Another vote for Dell. I recently picked up two E2414 for under $200 total and I'm loving them on my mini.

Dell UltraSharp U2412M, New Egg Shellshocker TODAY

I have two Dell UltraSharp U2412M that I've been using for a few years, 1st on my mac pro but now on my 2012 mini w/no issues. 1st monitor is display port/thunderbolt to display port, 2nd is hdmi to DVI on 2412.

I noticed that New Egg has this monitor featured on it's 10am (pst) shell shocker page. Price is only good for 3 hours. Unfortunately, my new egg promo emails are screwed up so I don't know (now) exactly how much they go on sale for. $279 now. I'll edit once I can see the price.

Edit - Price is 239.99!
