Apple TV and the History Channel

The History Channel is really making things difficult for me

I have premium cable through Comcast (Xfinity), the History app is available within Apple TV, and if you select a show, it asks you to authorize your device and gives you a code.

If you go to history.com/activate, Comcast/Xfinity is not listed as a provider.

If you try and use the History Channel App on your iPad and send it to your tv via Airplay, you can't. That functionality is disabled.

Is the History Channel in some kind of dispute with Apple? Is there any way around this?

It sounds like a disagreement between History and Comcast. I don't see how Apple plays into this at all. Also, the app developers are the ones that set whether video from an app can be airplayed.

I'm pretty bummed because of this. I use Comcast at my main residence and my AppleTV elsewhere. I really like channels like the history channel. Makes me want to switch back to Fios just to get this working on my Apple TV.

I hope they eventually come to some sort of a agreement.

I had Fios and switched (back) to Comcast.

Now I lost History Channel (I think A&E might also be lost) *That Stinks*

Also, my inhume WiFi /connecting to iTunes/Apple on AppleTV is MUCH MUCH slower.

Fios speeds for my internet was aroun 45mbps...with Comcast I can get anywhere from 45-120 depending on the device but AppleTV is considerable slower.

stinks.

I don't have an Apple TV, but would like one. So with the apps, you used to be able to stream shows on demand from History and A&E, but the apps are gone? Not sure how the "channels" work on Apple TV.

Sounds like the apps are there but the web page you're asked to go to in order to authenticate your cable subscription isn't allowing their provider to authorize.

Ya'll - don't fret about not getting the History Channel on an ATV. It blows - big, hairy & slimy, green & brown chunks.

I've got Comcast and DirecTV accounts for my urban and rural needs. I have signed in to the ATV History DirecTV app, and am pretty disappointed - lots of "clips" and no episodes on several "channels", most "channels" have all of the seasons available but only 2-4 episodes per channel, some "channels" have some free and mostly locked content. And, so much of the History (read A&E TV) content is reality TV.

Take the Top Gear show - almost all of the seasons have content available - pretty much ALL "clips" 2-3 minutes in length.

The History TV content is generally crap, and you're not missing much. I hid the channel, it was a waste of my time getting it activated. :mad::mad::mad:

If there's anything you'd want from the SHIsTory Channel - it's not in this app.

I wanted to publish a workaround to activate AppleTV Channels (like history channel that does not list comcast as a provider on their site)- I have tested it and it works, as of December 31st 2014.

Tested using appleTV ONLY - (I will use the history channel as an example)

1) First, login to your comcast account http://xfinity.comcast.net/
2) On the AppleTV > Select History Channel > Settings > Sign in to Provider > Note Activation Code
3) Replace the following URL with the Requester ID (Channel) and it's corresponding domain name below.
4) Go To URL In Browser
4) Wait about 10 seconds and appletv will say: "Success! Your TV Provider account has successfully linked to the HISTORY apple TV App. Happy Viewing"

Is their a similar workaround for Tennis Channel Everywhere? I have the Tennis Channel, but am really bummed I can't access Tennis Channel Everywhere on my AppleTV

Do you know anyone willing to activate some channels for me, as I don't live in the US but have a Apple TV but can't watch all the channels I want? I am will to pay per channel if need be.
