I am stumped… Browing the forums It seems the consensus around the "kernel[0]: IOATAController device blocking bus." message I am getting in Console is that it indicates a failing HD or SSD, however, in my case this message appears (3 times per second) *only after waking*, having previously put the computer to sleep via the apple menu.

As a related symptom; When I open up Disk Utility before the computer has ‘slept’, it works fine, but after sleep it opens a window with a ‘gathering datat’ message but no drives , gives a spinning beachball and won’t open; only a force-quit will get out of it.
So all this suggests a problem with one or more of my drives (albeit only after sleep..?).

BUT… I have started up from Yosemite on a Sonnet Pro Plus with all hard drives removed, and I have started from a Mavericks SSD connected via the logic board sata, with all drives and the Sonnet removed, in both normal mode and safe mode, in different user accounts, wih PCIe cards removed, PRAM reste, SMC reset… -and the problem remains.

It will only go to sleep from the apple menu (not via energy saving settings) This is the console readout immediately after putting the computer to sleep via apple menu, and waking:

I got further - it was the *one* drive that I hadn't removed in all my tests, the DVD drive. Now that I have detached it the error is gone (and Disk Utility works after sleep)..

but WHY would the CD/DVD drive cause problems after sleep only????

I have this same issue. And have had it for a loooong time. It causes so many problems.

Aside from living w/out a DVD drive, did you ever find another remedy?
