I am currently on mavericks and want to get a SSD. I know i also want to upgrade to Yosemite though.

Is it possible to get a apple branded ssd so that i will not run into the issues people mention with yosemite?

I upgraded my 2011 Macbook Pro to a 500Gb Crucial SSD a couple of years ago and it's the smartest thing I ever did - it's easier to do than you might fear, just back up to Time Machine and then restore from there onto your new disk, and it will utterly transform your machine.

I'm still on Mavericks too, though, so I haven't hit the Yosemite TRIM problem you're talking about here. Crucial know about it and this post seems to answer it so it might help you decide whether to risk it but it looks like you'll be fine: http://forum.crucial.com/t5/The-Cru/THE-CRU-To-TRIM-or-Not-to-TRIM-on-a-Mac-SSD/ba-p/143989
