I'm pulling my hair out trying to figure this out. I connect my iPhone 6 to USB in my 2013 Prius V. (I like seeing the album art work plus it never hurts to charge the phone.)

I just recently noticed that when my iPhone is connected to USB and playing music all my incoming alerts are muted?? (such as texts, mail, keyboard clicks, locking the device...) all those sounds used to play over my speaks but don't anymore. I had Toyota update my touch screen software to the most current one. 3.2.0? And still no audio alerts when connected via USB.

But, when I pair my phone with BT, ALL the sound alerts go through the car speakers just like they used to do when I'm connected via USB. If only album art worked displayed over BT.

Did Apple change something with iOS 8.1.2?

You probably aready thought of this, but could your USB cable be the issue? Try a different one and see if the other sounds pass through.
