Both are practically the same size physically, including screen size. The MacBook is lighter at 2 lbs compared to 2.44 lbs for the Surface Pro 3 with the keyboard.

Which do you think is a better computer for your everyday tasks around the house and for school work - Web browsing, Email, MS Office Apps, Netflix and other HD video streaming - where portability is a big factor?

That's not an easy question to answer you're comparing computers running two different Operating Systems.

It's down to personal preference really. Go and have a look at one of each and try them out, see what the displays are like and how the keyboard/trackpad feels. How a computer feels and the what the specsheet says can be two different things.

Wait for surface pro 4. It should be out in a couple months and it will be a fanless design with a core m processor. It should be much better than the 3.
