Search in spotlight
Select one of the files (don't open)
Hold CMD to see file path

When you open a file in iTunes, it automatically copies it to the iTunes library by default. That's normal.

Ok, try this:

Open a Finder window
Press CMD + Shift + C
Now search for a file
When it finds it, simply right-click > get info to find the path

Hmm. But you see non-music files in spotlight?

A file on your computer obviously won't show here unless you upload it. When you post, under Additional Options > Attach Files click "Manage Attachments". From there you can choose the file and click "Upload".

Just some thoughts, may help, maybe not.

It's the FILES that are important to "reach", NOT the folder they were in.

You say you can still open some of the files, is this correct?

Can you open some of them?
Can you open all of those that were important to you?

Try this.
You will have to do this ONE FILE AT A TIME.
You will have to repeat the process for each file.

Create a NEW folder on your desktop, in plain sight.

Open the first file.
Can you open it?
Can you see the content?

Now -- choose "save as" from the file menu.
You want to "re-save" the file to the NEW folder on your desktop.

Does this work for you?

If it works for the first file, try another file.
If this works, repeat, again, and again.

When done, you should have a new folder with some (or all) of the "lost content".
Granted, you may not get everything back, but with a little work, you can get SOME of it back.
