Over the weekend I got an old Mac Pro with an upgraded graphics card the 5770.

I also recently order a 7950 on eBay, but it's a pc version.

We use our main computer for photoshop, which processes around 30 weddings a year. Currently it has the gt120.

For Photoshop and Lightroom, will there be significant advantages using a pc version 7950? I'd lose the boot screen which is ok. I'd also have to remove a resistor which is no problem.

But is it worth the hassle to use the better card? Or should I stick with the genuine 5770 for my needs?

You don't HAVE to remove a resistor, actually. The card will still work, but it'll be throttled down to 2.5GT/s (PCIe 1.0). Depending on your usage, this may not even be a bottleneck.
