New Photos app - cannot hide face names

If I go to View > Hide Face Names... the face names do not actually get hidden, this does nothing.

Does this work for anyone else or do I have a bad library?

Works absolutely fine for me.
I hope you'll find the reason for your issue.

Do you mean the faces sub-album in the album section?

i think hide face data, mean not having the person's name pop up, or more importantly not being asked to label all the faces.

Yes apparently I thought this would hide the names of all the faces on the faces album. I see now that it just hides names on individual photos. Bummer!
