SoIi have a mid 2010 iMac and ai have just bought a kit of 2x2gb ram sticks.
So i was watching installation videos and all of them like this https://youtu.be/XjU_NQh6e1k show that when your installing to take the original ram out. This has caused a lot of confusion for me as the aim for me was to install the 2x2gb sticks and keep my old 2x2gb sticks in the mac to give 8gb of ram.
Do you need to take out the old ram or can u just install the new ram in the unused spots? I'm nearly certain I'm just being awkward and you can just utilise all 4 slots including the old ram but i've spent money and i want to be sure. Thanks

Should be ok, as long as you insert two new sticks of the same brand. Assuming you have more slots, I guess Apple put them into the lower 2 slots. Just stick the new ones into the upper 2. Just make sure they fit the required specs (type ... so DDR2, 3 etc. speed, voltage and CL latency).
