Export videos from Mac to ex hard drive

When i used to transfer my iPhone photos and videos to my mac in iPhoto then onto my passport hard drive, it done it instantly with no problems .
Just transferred 12 small vid clips to HD and it took over 40 minutes.
Why do Apple always mess around with something that works perfectly well and then ruin it ?

It might also be a problem with your external drive, it's impossible to say from this what the cause is

Hard drive working fine and from what i have read online there are lots of others with the same complaints.
If it aint broke leave it alone Apple !
