MacMini Late 2014 Crashes / Reboots all the time

Hi,

I have a MacMini Late 2014 that is crashing/rebooting all the time. It leaves me in the dark why this is happening. The MacMini is a clean install and has only a few programs running on it.

Programs running on the MacMini:

Yosemite 10.10.3
Hazel
Totalfinder
VMWare Pro Fusion (Latest Version) (used for Windows XP image (this one got moved / copied from my MacbookPro2009).

External Hardware is the OWC Mercury Elite Pro Dual having 2 SSD Samsung Harddrives (250gb) in RAID0 connected with Thunderbolt.

I now disconnected the Thunderbolt drive and hooked it up to my iMac, surprisingly it's not appearing in Finder.

Anyone have an idea how to fix this?

How does the Mini run WITHOUT the external dual-drive enclosure attached? Does it still crash on you, or does it remain stable?

Have you ever changed out the factory RAM inside the Mini?

@fishrrman I unplugged the TB drive and the Mac Mini is running "stable".

I've attached the TB drive to my iMac and it crashed after performing activity on the drive (extracting a large file).

The MacMini was custom made at the Apple factory.

Meanwhile I contacted MacSales and they advised me to get a replacement unit.

But not 100% sure it's the drive

Why are you not sure that the drive is the cause xieem?

From what you said, the problem migrated with the TB drive. The mini runs fine without the drive. The folks who sold you the drive (correct?) told you to replace the TB unit. I think that swapping that drive out should be your next step in the diagnostic/repair process.

@Celerondon It's because OWC didn't really gave an answer on my problem, but after doing some research on the web I was not the only one with this issue. (see some amazon comments on the product)

I am more and more convinced that it will be the TB enclosure, but I'll let my Mac mini run for the week. If it is not crashing than I am sure that's the main issue.

Maybe I'm missing something but I'm not sure what drive you are booting from. I picked up a mac mini, 2012 model, with a 500mb spinner and had very bad problems with it crashing, rebooting and beach balls. I was ready to toss it when I decided to put an ssd in it and that cured all of those. Not sure that is your problem, but it was certainly mine. Yosemite is horrible on spinners, it was on this one anyway, Now it's my itunes drive. My external usb passport never worked right, had problems, before I upgraded also. NO more since the upgrade.

I see what you mean about the Amazon reviews. The reviews seem mixed to me. How is the fan noise from your OWC Mercury Elite Pro Dual? From some reviews, it appears that the fan noise problem was resolved. Is this correct?

@xsquid the booting procedure is done on the MacMini itself, not doing a thunderbolt procedure. And only SSD here. (no spinning platters).

@celerondon the noise of the fan is solved, could barely hear it. One of the reviews was pointing out a firmware issue. Not sure if that causes the problem of crashing.

@xsquid (and others) I can now conclude that the Thunderbolt drive is causing the reboots. Have been running the same processes and the MacMini didn't crash.
