DVD issue fixed
Ok, I have to share this with you, my MBP had difficulties reading some (not all) video DVDs. It would spin them up three times and then simply eject them, as if they were unreadable. My good old PowerBook G4, however, played them all without any problems.
This strange problem has been reported before in other forums, and the normal procedure was a replacement of the drive. Luckily, this need not be done anymore, as the new EFI update fixes this problem! I tested it with a number of DVDs that were repeatedly rejected before - all run fine!

I did a clean install and it did not fix the vibration and whine problem. A few suggested pulling your hard drive out and put it back in. I did that but it did not stop the vibration. I did some more research and found out if you place the laptop on the palm of you hand or place a napkin under the right front foot or lift the left side of the laptop 4-5 inches the vibration stops. As far as the whine I got this explanation from appledefects.com.

The MacBook is victim to the high pitched noise generated by the processor, known as the 'CPU whine'
This occurs only when the CPU is idle
Disabling the second core of the processor or running a program that prevents the processors from being idle will eliminate this sound (like PhotoBooth).
This has also been observed on the MacBook Pro, as well as other Core Duo based PC laptops.
Unlike the Macbook Pro, Apple has yet to recognize this issue.

Update: Yesterday everything worked with my DVD drive - today everything is the same as before! It won't play some of my DVDs - how strange is that? It seems that the reset made the DVD drive accept DVDs again, but only for a limited time :-(
Does anybody else in this forum have the same problem? Is there any soft fix, or does my MBP have to get ripped apart and receive new parts?

the standard "remove battery" and do a "P-Ram-Reset" routine helped me to get the temperatur back to normal. 🙄

Can you post a link with the standard "remove battery" and do a "P-Ram-Reset" routine.

But this is what apple support told me on the phone:
1. Remove Battery
2. Hit the start button for about 10 sec
3. Put Battery back in
4. Press keys: (ALT) (Apple) (R) (P) at the same time and start the mac while pressing the keys. (Command, Option, P, and R)
5. The macbook will start up and makes a PEEP then shuts off
6. Keep the keys pressed
7. The macbook will start up and make PEEEP again
8. Do this 4 times
9. After 4 PEEEPS stop pressing the keys
10. The macbook will start normaly
Maybe some english pro can put this in better words ...

Would be great to have a way to downgrade the efi update. but apple says there is no way. but i dont understand that. why not???
anyway .. i just minimize PhotoBooth in the tray ...

TURN ON BLUETOOTH and use a mouse!
At the office i work with a bluetooth mouse and keyboard.
When using a mouse it stops permanent.
At home i work without it and turn normaly bluetooth off.
Now i descovered that when i turn on bluetooth the whine stops ...
But when not using a bluetooth device it comes back after some time.
Getting stranger every minute ....

I installed this the first day it was out and have seen no problems. I seem to be running around 3 degrees celsius cooler, and openoffice (uses x11) is working properly again.

I've just updated my Macbook to the lastest firmware but since then I cannot log in to the Win XP partition using bootcamp.
What will happen is that after I select the Win XP option at startup, the screen will go blank for a couple of minutes and then the system will restart itself to OSX instead..
Anyone facing the same problem as well?

So I decided to run the firmware update...No problems installing it but the system now Runs 4-5 celsius warmer then befour 🙁
So, not only will my MBP not wake from sleep now, but my girlfriend's iSight and infared sensor for the remote stopped being recognized. What a load of garbage.
Before the update my MBP would beachball everytime it tried to wake up from sleep forcing a hard restart. It's been three days since installing and I am prepared to say the the update has fixed the problem. 🙂
Although my experience has been positive, the track record of this update does not seem too good. I personally have not noticed any increase in temp. Processor whine was always there and can still be silenced with Quiet MBP.
