In any case, I want a macbook thin with the above specs and I want it "next tuesday." :D

Recently I actually had a dream regarding the macbook thin, but in my dream it was announced by steve jobs as the "macbook go" and it had a 10.6" screen, was 0.75" thin, and was a tablet style device with a case style similar to a macbook pro, unfortunately I can't remember the price or other specs. Maybe it's a vision of things to come. Yeah, I wish. :p

I think he meant chipsets. Not motherboards. The mobos are customized by the manufacturer for their specific models.
With this announcement we have "proof" that apple can and possible will update with similar specs tomorrow or at WWDC, whatever.
That's what i got anyway.

4 lbs?

Dell laptops seem to be bloating up -- at least compared to the Latitude D420 (3 lbs), D630 (3.3 lbs), etc.

So you're saying that because they don't cater for you they have a low market share, you matter some how?

Where did the 1% figure come from?

I matter because i'm a customer. And judging by the 1% market share, they don't offer what 99% of other customers want either. I reckon Apple will be out of the computer business within 5 years and only sell gadgets and phones.

I'd also like to second (or third?) the comment about HDMI. I was sad to see the S-Video connection leave the MBP lineup. Not everyone is going to have an Apple TV, so I'd like to have a way to get the content off of my laptop and onto a TV while I'm away from the home.

aren't there adaptors from miniDVI to HDMI and miniDVI to S-Video?

At least it means that it is possible, if not plausable, for the new MBP or MB to have these specs, if not better...

There is no better. Thats the best CD/DVD drive availble bar HD. Thats the newest chipset. The fastest processors availble. LED. There is no bettering those options. Maybe only with a better graphics card. But that is about the perfect MBP/MB. Perfect. I would get one.

If AAPL did something like this I feel it would be more likely go under the pro line.

I think Apple may bring out a smaller pro machine (to replace the 12" PBG4) and a Larger MacBook (15.4" to replace the 14" iBook).

This would make their Laptop range even more compelling.

Ack! You were right, and it's all of $20. Great, now I've got one more cable to carry around...

Actually, the integrated card reader would save me a USB cable, and the S-video would save me the adapter. Nothing, however, would save me from the pain of using Vista :(

Wow, nice job, Dell! Seems like a great machine - lightyears ahead of the macbook! Thinner, lighter, faster, etc!

If Apple doesn't update soon, they risk losing a lot of their marketshare. The current Macbook is still "acceptable" but it's not cutting edge. And that mac mini....what a joke now...512 mb ram? That's so 2001!

I really hope we see updates at WWDC......*crosses fingers*

Thicker, lighter, faster. Its 1.33 in. Macbook is a mere 1.06. Its nice, but atleast get the facts straight.

We can always count on the fanboys to come out and bash any and all competing products, no matter how weak Apple's offerings in a particular style/market are.

Apple is expected to release new MacBook Pros in the morning (Tues, June 5th), but whether or not they will represent more than just a minor bump remains unknown.

The MBPs need more than just "a minor bump." They need something to prove that Apple is still a computer company that is 'in it to win it.' The MB updates were abysmal and should have some with price cuts, given the 'enhancements' that were made. More importantly, a MB price cut clears that path for a nice 13.3" MBP, (the "ultra-portable" that Shaw Wu will take credit for predicting before Apple releases an even more portable 11" (or so) laptop (according to my predictions)).

The impending MBP updates MUST include LED displays and Santa Rosa, or else Apple will face certain ridicule.

Tomorrow's update may even include the aforementioned 13.3" MBP w/Santa Rosa (the reasoning for is made obvious by the wimpy MB update; it's clearly to make way for a smaller MBP). Apple isn't stupid and knows it has to compete in the more portable market, and hence would need a smaller MBP, but not reducing the price of the MB was a serious error. If Apple chooses not to unveil a 13.3" MBP tomorrow, they may choose to drop the price of the MB upon the like-sized MBP's release... in which case, I will forgive them. Until then I will continue to criticize that move.

The XPS M1210 starts off at $1199 retail right now. I expect this new model to start off somewhere around there.

The XPS M1210 doesn't have the LED backlight, and it's not likely that the price of this model will really reflect on this new computer, which seems a smidge more advanced than the current XPS 12".

And what, pray tell, do you base this claim on? Where's the report regarding Mac marketshare in the UK? Where are the figures showing the steady decline of their computer sales in light of the recent gadgets they revealed?

You've been smoking with Dvorvak....HAVEN'T YOU?!
