iPhone AppleCare - $60 in July

So I talked to an Apple Employee and he said AppleCare for the iPhone would be available in July for $60... Anyone else heard this?

I want insurance in case I drop it and it breaks, not just insurance for if it breaks by itself.

I think we should all get insurance on our iPhones. It's such a delicate product and one drop is all it takes. Also, if $60 is the prices, that's really reasonable. I'll get it, once I get my iPhone next Friday when I get paid.

i found insurance

SO,

I was in the mall today and an Auth Dealer for ATT (NOTE: not a store that sells the iPhone yet) was offering insurance for iPhones.

This is a promotion that is run by the owner of this store (branded as an ATT store and only sells ATT...AND is bigger than the Corp. ATT stores in the area, but just some random guy who bought the space and the auth. to sell ATT service). The store will insure your iPhone for 100 bucks for 2 years...it covers EVERYTHING. Loss, Stolen, Dropped, Thrown into the pool, etc. It's a great deal and I think I'll invest in that instead of AppleCare in July...

PS-
I'm in MN and it was at the Ridgedale ATT store on the 2nd floor if you are in the area.

insurance will be available in july for $69. i found it on apples website. go to buy an iPhone and it will list everything about it, then there is a tab that says warranty and it describes it there. copied and pasted

AppleCare Protection Plan

For $69, the AppleCare Protection Plan for iPhone provides an additional year of hardware repair coverage, including coverage for the iPhone battery.

The AppleCare Protection Plan for iPhone will be available in July. Customers can purchase the AppleCare Protection Plan anytime during the iPhone one-year limited warranty.

Confirmed, I also got a price quote of $69 for applecare. Which is great, cause I had a real fear that they'd up it to $99 for such a complex device.

My only question is this:
Since you can include a display on the applecare for your mac (if they were bought at the same time), I want to know if you can include the bluetooth headset on the applecare for your iPhone (if they're bought at the same time). This is the only thing that's keeping me from buying my phone. I can't believe I've resisted this long.

Delicate my $#@! This thing is a tank!

http://www.pcworld.com/video/id,545-...d,0/video.html

In this video the guys put it in a bag with keys and shake it/rub it. Then they put the key straight on the glass and rub it with pressure. No Scratches! Then they drop it on carpet, then on lino floor, then outside on the concrete multiple times. Some scuffs to the shiny silver rim on the phones edge, but that was the extent of the damage. I still don't plan on dropping mine, but its good to know right?

As far as applecare, I will probably buy it. I don't know that it will cover water damage, lost phone, or dropped off a building damage, but it will cover the phone if the speaker blows, or iPod functionality stops working, or headphone jack gives out. I think its a worthy investment.

How long is this promotion going on for? And at the Ridgedale mall? I've never been there before but I'm in the area. I might have to stop over there tomorrow.

apple care wont cover repairs if you dropped it or got it wet, etc. insurance is a better bet for that.

I'm looking into State Farm this week for renter's insurance, and then getting the rider off of that for mobile electronics. I read some people rave about it for their cell phones, laptops, cameras, etc. I've thought about this for a while, but getting the iPhone now is causing me to get it quicker.

I'd be willing to bet Apple is allowing accidental breakage replacement at least for a short "honeymoon" period. Of course, it's at the discretion of the Genii, but that link at least proves it's possible.

Does anyone know if American Express covers the warranty for an additional year on the iPhone.

AMEX typically doubles the warranty period up to 1 year, but I'm not sure about phones. They do warranty other consumer electronics (TV's, etc.).

Something for the AMEX buyers to look into before jumping on the applecare bandwagon.
