The question is, who is Apple getting together with and what will it bring us?

My theories:

(A) Apple TV now has out-of-the-box DVR functionality for over-the-air HDTV.

OR

(B) Jobs is going to sit this one out and in lieu of the the usual product announcements, let Apple board member and Nobel Peace Prize winner Al Gore give a new and improved Keynote presentation about carbon emissions.

I just got my Mac mini / eyeTV HD DVR setup working, so both would suck, but (B) would suck more.

Good angle. I'm not sure Google has this nailed down yet. I expect a Google - Apple tie up when they do.

FBI, I think a terrorist plot is going to be happening on the 15th in SF! I think it might be a Chemical warfare! There are banners saying something might be in the Air!

Isn't it possible that this sign belongs to another company showcasing software etc at Macworld? Doesn't Apple normally have some sort of branding on their banners?

Excuse the ignorance if I have no idea.

The banner has a huge underneath the slogan. It is branded and definitely Apple. Something in the air is probably iTunes Movie Rentals with Apple TV or the new iMac (don't know how something in the air applies to iMac but I'm sure Steve will enlighten us)

Maybe they'll announced that they've finally got AirDisk working with the Airport Extreme n, and will apologise for their complete incompetence and track record with this product so far.

If we're REALLY lucky we might even be able to use AirDisk with Time Machine.

Or maybe it will be the smell of ******** when Steve gives some other product the false hype that the Airport Extreme got...

There's an "m" in "there's something in the air", and there's an "m" in "MacBook Pro" therefore it's obviously a new MacBook Pro
Isn't it so obvious..

There's something in the air.

"2008. There's something in the air."

It's an election year. iBull*****Detector
Don't take a deep breath. iBioChemAttackSensor

It would be great if Apple offered the ability to stream 1080i content wirelessly to my home theater, but that's not feasible yet, is it?

It would be thrilling if Apple released this ultraportable with a docking station computer. I'd be all over that, but it has nothing to do with being "in the air."

It would be amazing if Apple announced some kind of joint venture with Google to offer nationwide WIFI, but that's nowhere near being feasible.

It's fun wondering about what it might be. Hope the secret is something we all find delightful.

5. Some sort of iTunes integration with in-flight entertainment

6. Super-light MacBooks
Last year was iPhoneWorld so I don't think Jobs will concentrate much on the iPhone this year. I also don't think it is Slingbox because that would mean a product developed by someone other than Apple would take center stage...and that will never happen. A light computer is not really "in the air." Apple is too clever for that to be what they mean. And I don't think this will turn into AppleTVWorld either (although I do expect AppleTV-related announcements).

No...I think the focus will be on the Macintosh at this year's MacWorld. Therefore I vote for #3. Imagine every new MacBook equipped with an AirPort card that can access AT&T's 3G network. No more searching for WiFi spots. You could access the Internet at fast speeds while cruising down the highway! Pretty cool. It would definitely catch the competition off guard.

I agree. I came to the end just to say that the font is Myriad Pro Light. The perspective may be throwing people off but if you really work with typefaces this was obvious.

Perhaps not for that purpose, but one wonders what Apple could do with part of the 700MHz spectrum...

How decent is it for streaming video? With Slingbox rumored to be working on an iPhone and iPod Touch client, perhaps Apple is looking at streaming rentals to those devices for when you find yourself stuck in an airport because of a delayed flight. Make a great ad tie-in:

"There is something in the air, but it's not you because of snow at O'Hare. So why not catch the new episode of '(insert show name here)' while you wait for the next update at the gate?"

Here is a geek observation, the apple logo on those banners have a silvery rim that is pretty similar to the iphone casing....hmm maybe I should go outside...

I think maybe a bunch of air themed releases

New laptop light as air
with built in 3G chip to get data over the air

Itunes movie rentals, updated apple tv, and slingbox for iphone is on the air

current iphone gets improved bluetooth for listening over the air, Google maps gets triangulation for getting location over the air, Starbucks lets you order coffee over the air

New iPhones will have 3G to let you download faster over the air and GPRS for getting your location over the air.

New and current iPhone to be able to make calls over wifi
