I think everybody *might* be reading more into what tiny-code said than is really there. The quote says "see us soon on iTunes", NOT "see us soon at the iTunes Store."
If we were able to download iPhone apps direct from the developer, we would still need to load then into the iTunes app on our Macs/PCs in order to transfer them to the iPhone. I think this may be what the quote is talking about.
Think about it, apps would be distributed in a package format unique to iPhone/iTouch apps, which iTunes would recognize, and load into a new apps section of the library, in order to install on your device with the next sync. Therefore, "see us soon on iTunes"
