Application having parts which run in different OS

Hi everyone,

was just interested to know if there are softwares or applications which run in different operating systems at the same time? I mean an application might have two parts. and both of these parts for some reasons run in different operating systems? Does something like this exist?

It's hard to believe that in such heterogeneous environments (like in grid or distributed computing or in virtuailised environments where one can run 3-4 different OSs on a single physical machine) something like that does not exist
