VERY slow finder in leopard

Hey all,

I'm using a year old blackbook running leopard. When I copy/paste/delete a file it takes about 3~4 for the action to perform after I give the command. Also I takes about 5 seconds for the contents of a folder to appear after I click on it. I know time the order of seconds may seem like a short amount of time, but when it happens as often as this does, I can become quite restless. Any ideas? Thanks!

Very slow finder in leopard

I had the samething on my imac Duo Core 2 2.16GHZ. The way to fix the five second openning on the folders. Jack the double mouse click speed to the highest setting. The higher the double click the faster the folders in the finder open. Sounds crazy, but it work for me. When set to a low setting the folders in the finder take about 3-5 seocnds to open. I sent bug reports to Apple.

I've been having the same issue since I got my MacBook in November and have always wondered why it was like that and now I know. Thank you so much for answering one of my biggest issues with my mac.

Is this for real? Tell me that it's not a late April 1st thread.

If it is real, is this bug common to all MacBooks?

The way I found this bug is when I made a new admin account. With the default mouse setting at the highest double click the finder folders would just pop right open. I like to have the mouse settings set to the slowest double click setting. I just kept messing around with the click speeds. I had 10.5 for three weeks before I did this. I went as far to wipe the HD and reinstall 10.5, it didn't help any.

When 10.5.1 came out the bug is still there and the same with 10.5.2 I showed it to the guy at the Apple store.

Sorry to say it's not an April Fools joke.

I'm glad I could help out.

You really helped us buddy.
I just posted about this in one of the thread and then found your thread. That completely solved the problem On the other hand, as you said, I like to keep double click setting low.

Thanks! This fixed my finder as well. I really couldn't stand the 5 second wait to delete a file.

This is a silly bug, hopefully will be gone soon.

Thank you, it was starting to get really annoying waiting 3-4 sec for the folder to open.

Wow, I'm amazed that you found out this was the problem. I wonder why Apple hasn't fixed it yet? I have a MP 8 core and it was driving me nuts trying to figure out why it was taking about 10 seconds to open folders. Good find!!!

Voila!

Hi,
Thanks for the solution.
My wife a Win user had started taking digs at the "powerful" Macbook Pro taking so long to open a folder.
Your solution has restored the Mac back to its exalted position in the household!
