Hey all,

I'm using a year old blackbook running leopard. When I copy/paste/delete a file it takes about 3~4 for the action to perform after I give the command. Also I takes about 5 seconds for the contents of a folder to appear after I click on it. I know time the order of seconds may seem like a short amount of time, but when it happens as often as this does, I can become quite restless. Any ideas? Thanks!

Trevor

Very slow finder in leopard

I had the samething on my imac Duo Core 2 2.16GHZ. The way to fix the five second openning on the folders. Jack the double mouse click speed to the highest setting. The higher the double click the faster the folders in the finder open. Sounds crazy, but it work for me. When set to a low setting the folders in the finder take about 3-5 seocnds to open. I sent bug reports to Apple.

I've been having the same issue since I got my MacBook in November and have always wondered why it was like that and now I know. Thank you so much for answering one of my biggest issues with my mac.

That's crazy that you even figured that out! Way to go

Is this for real? Tell me that it's not a late April 1st thread.

If it is real, is this bug common to all MacBooks?

The way I found this bug is when I made a new admin account. With the default mouse setting at the highest double click the finder folders would just pop right open. I like to have the mouse settings set to the slowest double click setting. I just kept messing around with the click speeds. I had 10.5 for three weeks before I did this. I went as far to wipe the HD and reinstall 10.5, it didn't help any.

When 10.5.1 came out the bug is still there and the same with 10.5.2 I showed it to the guy at the Apple store.

Sorry to say it's not an April Fools joke.

I'm glad I could help out.

You really helped us buddy.
I just posted about this in one of the thread and then found your thread. That completely solved the problem On the other hand, as you said, I like to keep double click setting low. :(

Thanks! This fixed my finder as well. I really couldn't stand the 5 second wait to delete a file.

This is a silly bug, hopefully will be gone soon.

Thank you, it was starting to get really annoying waiting 3-4 sec for the folder to open.

Wow, I'm amazed that you found out this was the problem. I wonder why Apple hasn't fixed it yet? I have a MP 8 core and it was driving me nuts trying to figure out why it was taking about 10 seconds to open folders. Good find!!!

i know it seems like i am bumping this thread. But this is a MAJOR issue that apple needs to see! I want my finder to be super fast, BUT i also dont want to have to double click on full speed. crazy bug

Voila!

Hi,
Thanks for the solution.
My wife a Win user had started taking digs at the "powerful" Macbook Pro taking so long to open a folder.
Your solution has restored the Mac back to its exalted position in the household!

Wow

So, I know I should be on Snow Leopard by now, but this thread just fixed 6 months of aggravation! Thanks!

I've been having this problem again and forgot the solution. Just signed on to see what the solution was when I first asked the question and am amazed how many comments have followed. Not at how many of them, but the duration between them.

17 posts over the span of nearly 2 years... the internet amazes me. A 2 year discussion continuing.

 ... And now it has spaned over to 2011, not yet bugfixed!

The folders was sooo slow to open in many years. I have upgraded to 6GB ram. No results. I thought of changing the hard-drive too.

They will not fix the issue I think, as long they sell more RAM and HDs, and as long as MAC-users lie for them selves and others saying OS X is better than Windows. The problems are subliminal so maybe it's more eays to accept them?

For me... In Trackpad settings the the double-click speed was set at the slowest. After setting it higher the folders opened sooo fast.

It has to be set almost at the highest speed to really feel the effect of fast opening folders!
You have to train your finger to double-click very fast!

Professional work with video is ineffective for me because multi-clicks is impossible.
For example to click on a zoom-button i have to move mouse around between clicks on the same position.
Often I can't close a window by clicking the X-button! Waving around with the mouse helps.
Does the time-restriction on double clicks also affect multi-clicks?
This issue makes OS X useless for professional work! I don't want to go back to Windows :(
Also this stupid need for activate panels before it's possible to click buttons gives sooo many extra clicks.
I try to work with Premiere on OS X. There were no problems at all with Premiere-interactions on Windows.

I have OS X 10.5.8 and a Macbook late 2008

Add myself to the list of members grateful to have found this solution. I wish though that this thread would come up top in google searches.

Additional search strings that hopefully helps future folks:-
finder slow in displaying contents: solved
finder delay to show directories: solved

No Way!

I can't believe this just fixed about a year of sluggish Mac behavior. How does such a basic adjustment slow down the whole system like that? Safari was even loading pages slow, after this completely unrelated adjustment it's loading faster than ever.

Weird. Glad it's fixed now though.
