I've tried Googling my question, but I can't seem to get a definitive answer.
Does Apple charge sales tax for phone orders?
I recently bought AppleCare over the phone and I swear the Apple rep quoted me a price with sales tax added. I paid with credit card and I was looking at my bill and noticed it was the base price with no sales tax.
If it makes a difference, I bought it as a student (so I got the educational discount), and I live in California.
I'm not complaining, of course, just wondering what actually led to me not getting charged sales tax:
1. Educational purchase? (but I've bought stuff as an educational purchase before and got taxed)
2. Phone order? (but Apple rep quoted tax)
3. No tax on AppleCare? (but there's tax when I try to buy it online)
4. Mistake on Apple or my credit card company's part? (unlikely)
