The silence ringer switch on the side of my iphone just broke. It was stiff and i turned it and it broke off. What bull ****.

haha but yeah, mine is having problems, like to turn it to vribrate its very quick and smooth, but when i have to turn it back to like loud, its harder to push :/

i had a similar problem with my silence ringer switch being very tough and off-kilter

i brought it back to the store

currently they have no idea how to change out my phone for another one, they told me to bring it back in a couple days and they will definitely take care of me

such a bummer.

Wouldn't that actually be a good thing though?
Think about it, say you're in a meeting/movie/dinner/presentation/whatever. You put it on silent, then when you put it in your pocket, the swith catches on the lining. I'd much rather it be stiff than super loose, the the switch would be completely useless.

mine was beyond this

like it hurt my finger to switch it

plus the switch is not straight

i will try to take a pic with my iSight now

Mines the same way. It clicks going down but when going up, its harder to push and doesnt click into place. Might take it back.

Mine also broke...not cool.

My ringer switch was really stiff since I got it and behold....tonight I flip the switch over and the metal button snapped right off.

Yep, my wife's clicks distinctly in both directions, but mine only clicks in one direction and takes a lot of resistance to switch it back to ringer mode.

Same deal

Yeah, when I got my new 3G the ringer switch was really stiff, almost impossible to switch, and it would do so all lop-sided. Today I tried it and it broke right off.

Took it in and they said a few other people had the same problem. They said I could get it replaced but I have to take it to a service center. :( oh well hope that works out.

No Luck replacing broken iPhone 3G ringer switch

I took my 3G iPhone to the repair center here in Hong Kong, and they barked at me saying the broken switch isn't covered under warrenty?!!!!??! They took down my name and said they would call me today and tell me how much it would cost to repair. No call. What should I do?!

The phone isn't even activated yet so it is just sitting at home. I was wondering why the switch was so hard to move, and then it just poped off!

I went by the AT&T store lastnight and placed an order for my 3G. On the way out I stopped by and played with on of them and the first thing I noticed was how cheap the ringer switch was compared to the original. The floor model looked crooked and also felt like it would break if you looked at it wrong. It did not seem so slide as easily as the original.

My first generation iphone has a broken ringer switch as well. At first I found it annoying that the hair trigger caused it to turn the ringer off as It bounced around inside my pocket. I missed a lot of important calls. Then after a few weeks, it just wiggled loosely and jammed in the off position. I have an unlocked phone that I use in Canada and Europe, so it isn't covered under warranty.

After a few months of running silent, I decided to drill out the switch and manually switch the ringer back on. My version has the bell icon, so I knew it worked right away. Mission accomplished in two minutes at no cost. I used a pin to move the microswitch to the on position.

The microswitch is at the upper half of the black plastic (outer) switch, so you don't have to drill the whole thing out. I'm going to fill the gap with epoxy so I never have to worry about losing my ringtone again. I can mute it or drop the volume if I need to run silent again.

My twin brother and I each got white iPhone 3G phones. His switch is flawless while mine makes me nearly drop the phone if I attempt to do it using only one hand. It's a bit more difficult to silence than it is to turn on.

Who should I call? Apple or AT&T?

If you're in the US, take it back to apple and demand a new one. My first iphone3g was like that and i returned it the next day no questions asked. I would suggest testing out everything in the store before u leave to prevent furthur hassles.

We did notice it in-store but we thought it would loosen up.

Unfortunately, an Apple store is not an option. Even the right kind of AT&T store is inconvenient! I prefer a phone/mail RMA option if possible. Apple warrants it, so I guess I call them then.

Now, does anyone else's experience these problems?
1) Some web forms flick and scroll with each letter typed (this one is doing it right now).
2) The backspace function sometimes sticks and clears out everything you wrote (happens often enough that I am scared to use it!).
3) Short of resetting the insertion point and editing after the fact, there is seemingly no way to refuse an auto-correction when closing with parenthesis or quoted (try enclosing "vids").

well mine has just broken this morning:mad::mad:
ive beginning to regret upgrading.
going to the apple store later hopefully they will give me a new one

Brand New out of the box iPhone 3G - Mute switch busted!!

I have been a big fan of Apples products and Apple's product quality, but today I opened but brand new Black 16 gigabyte iPhone 3G only to discover the mute switch stiff. I have to really try hard just to put the phone on mute when going into meetings, this makes it much harder to use.

Does anyone know what Apple would do for this problem if I took it into the Apple Store? Or would I just be wasting my time.

Fairly sure they'd replace it for you.

Sounds like a feature instead of a flaw. Maybe this feature was designed by Microsoft. ;)
