iPhone 2.0 problems or annoyances that I've experienced

I'm glad to see some indication that the iPhone team is working on tweaking and refining their iPhone OS 2.0 software release. The software provided some great new functionality for my iPhone 2.5G but here are some annoyances that I've noted.

I've definitely experienced the freeze when I launch the new Contacts application or Phone application. It's typically around 5-8 seconds and in that time the screen is locked.

Keyboard is more sluggish than it was under the iPhone 1.x

Applications quit much more frequently and randomly. Safari still crashes when multi-tasking (iPod+Safari), and games and apps quit unexpectedly.

MobileMe is god awful, but I don't think that's a firmware issue. Just had to put my 2c in on that.

2.0.1

.1 - It's a DOT release. There's just going to fix a handful of bugs.
2.1 - we may see more features.

Apps are Nice BUT

Personal opinion but I would love to see Bluetooth capabilities put in to place prior to cut and paste or the like. The thought of pushing music to my car stereo via my iPhone would be simple be awesome.

I mean is it to much to ask for what ever other $50 dollar phone has?

Okay let the flaming begin.

Cheers.

Still astonished everyday by my 1G 8MB iphone.

Does anyone else think it's odd that this log is stamped 7/9/08, and that the page they're accessing appears to be an unboxing photos page?

Everyone I know with the iPhone (about 7 people) 1g is complaining about sluggish iPhones since upgrading to 2.0. My biggest issues are with Safari. It constantly crashes and literally goes nuts when attempting to type in text fields within the web page (not typing URL addresses).

My phone has gone to sleep several times while on the home screen or navigating through contacts, e-mail or making calls. I have restored twice to see if that helps and it doesn't. With all of this being said, I'm still amazed at all the apps available now! I can deal with these minor bugs for a couple of weeks. This phone is now a seriously amazing device!

Technically the 2.0 firmware is 1.2.0, isn't it? All the first gen phones were 1.1.0-1.1.4, and then 2.0 was 1.2.0, so this new one would be 1.2.1. I imagine real 2.0.0 would be an overhaul of the interface.

My point is, not that I think it will, but that this could have new stuff.

Wow already huh? I am not experiencing any problems with the new firmware other than slight keyboard lag. I hope this is an update to the app store to help it become more navigable.

I noticed significantly more keyboard lag since 2.0, glad to see it's not just me. Won't be surprised for a fix in the next update.

My guess is we are looking at bug fixes, does it not drive anyone else nuts when you go to the phone or contacts app and it is locked for a few seconds before you can scroll around???

I am glad that I am not the only one that has this problem, hopefully it will be fixed in the upcoming firmware update.

Although I have already stated I don't expect features with this next update, it is absouletly possible. If you remember that 1.1.3 at MWSF08 gave us a bunch of new things (locate me in maps, lyrics, etc). 1.1.x gave us the iTune store. I could see a bluetooth stack update in a 2.1 and copy/paste in a future release (1.3.0).

I am also confused now how Apple is handling the version numbers. On my 3G phone it shows 2.0. I imagine this is 1.2.0, but they should be consistent when displaying the version #.

Cisco VPN is broken and must be fixed.

For all the press about [ Enterprise Ready ], I have not been able to connect
within the enterprise using the Cisco VPN client. On the Apple discussion
forums nobody else has either. I assume this is a dirty little secret that will
have to be fixed in the next update.

No, its version 2.0, not 1.2.0. They skipped the rest of the 1.x thanks to the tons of new features, App Store, etc. Its really iPhone 2.0... the second revision. Not a point update.

Are we sure this isn't one of us "early" upgraders that stumble on to 1,2 (347) a few days before the general release. We've all now side-graded to 1,1 (347), but the "2" version could be 2.0.1.

Actually the Iphone1,1 and Iphone1,2 designate the hardware- the 1,2 denotes that said 5A347 was intended for the iPhone 3G.

That also could explain why the 1,1 release ameliorates the 'warm yellow tinge'.

(in case apple does read these)

-Fix Bluetooth so i can once again connect to my '07 BMW without problems! (worked fine with 1.1.4). This is a big issue and ive read other cars are having similar problems.

-Fix sync of iCal "Subscribed" calendars into Mobileme and iPhone. (I'd like my US holidas in the phone!)

>>and of course, new features would rule, Cut and Paste, its about time for that, especially with new business users on this phone thanks to exchange support!

I hope it does come out soon and addresses some problems with the phone. My email has been crashing since the 2.0 update. Nothing but Safari ever crashed before. It'd be nice if nothing crashed. That's what I've come to expect from Apple. I rest assured that Apple has people working around the clock to fix these issues.

FWIW, the 2.0 UI is more sluggish than before, and yes the contacts app is slow to load and quick to crash.

Bug fixes are definitely in order.

I am having a lag with anything contacts.
I wonder if it's due to the 15 apps I have installed, before 2.0 my phone speedy no matter what.

I hope the 2.0.1 update fixes all known 2.0 bugs.

I have 34 apps installed and my iPhone crashes a lot and has to reboot. I "sidegraded" to the latest 2.0 firmware and now testing to see if it is any better, along with deleting and re-downloading all my apps again.

I dont know if its just me but itunes will not sync any of my contacts nor ical. it just says "syncing contacts" or "syncing calendar" and freezes.

it would be nice to see these things fixed

AMEN! It's currently my only gripe with 2.0.

I have no issues using the iPhone Cisco VPN client to connect to my company's Cisco 3020 VPN concentrator. It's one feature that is actually working as advertised for me...

Cisco VPN not working.

From the following link from Cisco

http://www.cisco.com/application/pdf/paws/100347/vpnclient-versions.pdf

Could the failures being experience by both myself and others be a filter restricting them in the concentrator config. If this
is the case then the places where it is working the administrators are more flexible and not filtering for only "Mac OS X" or
"Windows" and letting any client through.

Just a thoght.
