2nd USB from the right ..and mini displayport , it seems to slope up from where the audio in/out ports are . then it seems to bulge above the USB ports and then sloping back down ....is this a trick of the light or what ?

It is not bent. You are seeing the plastic sheet on both the top and bottom of the computer that protects the metal in the box.

I have a question about all this "LED display" stuff in the ACD, MBP, and MB (and MBA)

24-inch (viewable) LED-backlit thin film transistor (TFT) active-matrix liquid crystal display

All the notebook displays and "LED-backlit". Are these displays just LCD's with an LED backlight? I always thought they were actual LED screens...

Yup. Dead on. It's the plastic wrapping... The notebook was literally fresh out of the box. The pics show me slicing the box open.

It's not the plastic sheet(s). It's the gap between the lid and the base. But I would believe it's a trick of the light because the apparent bending is right where the light is shining on it.

Yes, it works just like a regular trackpad. It detects what finger is your "clicking finger" and which finger you are using for dragging, highlighting, selecting, etc.

I mean, it could be both. But the plastic sheet was still on the machine for some of the pics 🙂

Lighting is always tough on these typos of shots. However, I can assure you the machine is not bent.

Yes it works. It simply will take a few hours to get accustomed to it.

Just the backlight. An LED display would look like a light bright

Reflectiveness at its worst

Perhaps the biggest with the new display, or the new design entirely, is the glass screen. With exception to the 17" model MacBook Pro and white 13" MacBook, which have retained the design and casings of their predecessors, Apple has opted to integrate the new glass displays completely. Unfortunately, we can't say we are with Apple on this one; the new glass display cover is extremely reflective, which as you can see in the picture below, shows more of the Apple employee and myself than the desktop. Nevertheless, Jobs believes that the reflectivity of the glass displays are offset by the powerful and bright LED displays. Having seen the new displays first-hand, we can attest to the fact that the new screens are notably bright. All the same, the reflectivity of the new MacBook and MacBook Pro are a major issue. We went hands-on with the new notebooks in a typically lit room, neither too bright nor too dark, and the reflection was incredibly distracting. We can hardly imagine what using the new notebooks in broad daylight or well-lit rooms would be like.

Who calls them LED displays? The only time I've heard them called that is when people are comparing the LED backlit displays with the older incandescent backlit displays. "I like the new LED displays more than the incandescent displays." Did you really think that the old displays were like light bulbs?

Weird Email from Apple?

I just setup and registered my new MB and within an hour, I got an email from Apple stating thanks for registering my iPod touch. I don't own a touch and thought it was weird that I got this. Has anyone else got this email?

I purchased the MBP at an Apple Retail Store. I got it the same Welcome to iPod touch email you got. Assumed it was an error on Apple's part.

If anybody wants to see the email, let me know.

For those who have new MBP's, how stable of fastened is the hard drive in place. Is it held by screws? How many? etc

Replacing the Hard Drive on the new Macbook Pro

Here are the steps to replacing the hard drive on the new MBP:

1. First remove the battery (after removing the hatch)
2. Touch metal to discharge electricity
3. Use a Philips head screwdriver to loosen the captive screws that hold the bracket in place
4. Using the pull tab, gently lift the drive out of the bay

The connector is attached to a cable and remains in the hard drive disk bay

5. Insert replacement drive at an angle, focus on screws
6. Replace bracket and tighten screws
7. Put the battery back in
