Share Your Short Films...
So I often browse this board for inspiration so I thought I would create this thread where everyone can post their videos so we can get tips and ideas off each other. If the name is linked it is to their Youtube channel that they have provided later in the thread!
Enjoy!!! My youtube channel is located in my my signature but I will select some of my better ones. Since I think we deserve some views I have digged this thread! Do so too! http://digg.com/comedy/Collection_of...s_from_Youtube

Composite with adjustments to the opacity levels? You may want to integrate some time remapping and motion blur to smoothen the slow motion. |

I used Final Cut Pro. One of the first times I used it. So I didn't know everything, and I forgot which filter I used.
I have a lot more videos, but they are currently offline, because or school newspaper is taking a break. I made a video for that too :P. www.devettevis.nl p.s. it takes a while to load

On my old Intel iMac at home and occasionally on a G5 Quad. PS- the Green screen is incredibly poor |

The Cheeseball was the one thing i 'outsourced.' A friend made a 3d Model and animated it rolling on the spot (in 3DS Max) and I moved it around in Motion.
The explosions are part Motion and many are stock footage from Detonation films I bought off their store. |

How did you pick up the techniques? Just through trial and error or a book or DVD.
Im keen to make the step from Final Cut Express to the full Final Cut Studio you see! |

I taught myself. Lots of trial and error and I'm still learning new tricks on each project. The more you work with it, the more you see what you can and can't do with Motion. it does take a while to learn.
( to answer acearchie: 1st gen Intel 20" iMac 2GHz for some, G5 Quad for other stuff- there didn't seem to be a lot of diff between the two) Last edited by ClivePwned; May 27, 2009 at 06:03 PM. Reason: extra info |

Here are some films I made as a film major at undergrad:
This is a documentary about the small town in Ohio I'm from: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=F8JaL4NERfc This is just a small short about subtle sexual imagery in Disney films: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ThqwOpGZdBg And this is my attempt at horror: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RosSOHviYKc

All were edited with Final Cut Pro. :-) (although the documentary was edited on a Steenbeck, but that edit was re-done frame for frame in final cut when I transfered the negative to video)

Wow what was it like using 'real' cameras compared to the HD consumer cams that I have been using?

As far as using the 'real' cameras? Lots of prep. You could fit either 100' (2.5 minutes) or 400' feet (10 minutes) of film in those cameras. You had to know what you wanted to shot, you had to choose what shots were important. You had to light everything using only light meters and contrast viewers to guesstimate what it would look like on film (we didn't have video feeds for those cameras). You had to make sure your actors knew their lines and not mess up as to not waste film. Then there was agony when you sent out your film to the lab (was there dirt in the lens? On the film? Maybe the sprocket holes missed the registration pin? Maybe the light meter was miscalibrated? Light leaks?) I'm all for the convenience of digital but shooting (and editing) on film definitely teaches a certain discipline.

You can check out the others on my page if anyone wishes. But not all of them are that great. This one's fun: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=55n7wV66PBA This was an attempt to make a film based on haiku structure: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NSBPEUoV7RI This was just something I shot and edited in a day. Nothing too special: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=edHG8raHIE8

I'd really like any tips or insight that anyone has to offer, this is one of my first ventures. I came back from a 3 day run of shows with some friends with about 2 hrs of footage, made a 7:30 cut for youtube, will be putting all the songs individually on there and then also cutting a dvd for the other guys/friends. Here's the first video:
