I faced this issue yesterday, where my content seems to have disappeared without notice (first I thought it was a network issue). Although it's not that big of a deal when your content is already backed up on iTunes, it's a hassle nonetheless to resync bigger movies, especially over wireless connections...congrats to Apple for promptly releasing this update today.

I yet have to find bugs in SL; as for the iMac, please don't take the words of some as the words of most...issues will always exist and will always have to be fixed depending on thousands of different setups and configurations.

I've helped at least 10 people switch in the last year, and they are adamant to say that they are NEVER returning to the inferior world of PC/Windows.

Bizarre timing!

Went to use aTV this evening and Remote app could not find the device. Then the white remote became unresponsive and the box crashed.

Finally got my film to download but it was jerking all over the place during the first five minutes.

Getting bored with the appalling software updates and non-existent testing from Apple, across all teams. MobileMe, iTunes, 10.6, aTV, iPhone... the list goes on.

...guess Apple cares more about your TV shows than your computer data.

(there must be a joke about the typical Apple user hidden within the line of text above!)

burning the oil on the weekend to save your TV shows...hopefully Apple is also working weekends to fix the hundreds of bugs to this "performance upgrade" of an OS!

hey, I am a fanboy too, but come on Apple, update your buggy OS already.

Maybe they're lying to you because they got scared when you foamed at the mouth while chanting "MS IS DEAD!, PC'S ARE DEAD!".

I think they're afraid of you.

I had this problem and it royally pissed me off. I sat down to watch a movie with my family and instead, I'm Mr. trouble shooter, trying to figure out what happened. Ruined a nice movie night... I don't use my Apple TV that often - and when I do, it should "just work".

Not happy about this - fix your QA process Apple.

P.S. Apple - 3.0 also F'ed up the connection between your iPhone's "remote" app and Apple TV. Seriously guys... it may be a "hobby" for you, but the money I used to pay for it came from no hobby of mine.

Makes those "I'm a PC. And I'm a Mac." ads all the more aggravating.

C'mon, Microsoft, and take off the kid gloves. Take Apple to the carpet over this stuff.

I've used the v3.0 upgrade on my Apple TV for dozens of hours over the last week and haven't had any serious problems. Same goes for the last two years of ownership -- with one exception of a delete-all-purchased-content syncing bug that was in a previous release of the v2.X firmware (fixed only after several months even after I reported the problem to Apple early on with step-by-step instructions on how to easily reproduce the bug). It seemingly took an article on MacCentral/MacWorld to move them to fix the problem (or maybe it was just a coincidence of timing).

In any case, this fast response is a bit unusual so it was either a very widespread problem or they are now putting more emphasis on the Apple TV. Perhaps Steve Jobs was convalescing at home and experienced this same failure -- now THAT would invoke a quick reaction.

Are you using the most recent update to the Apple TV Remote application? They issued a new version (free as always) to go along with the v3.0 firmware.

I didn't see any issues except for extremely slow iTunes Extras content. Also on iTunes Extra I cannot back out to the main extras screen once I dive into the content.

I stream everything as my iMac is on 24/7 so there is no issues getting content off of my network drive.

If you haven't found the bugs, you clearly haven't been looking, or perhaps even using the OS. They're pretty damn common, popping up even in routine tasks.

Calculator is a prime example of the lack of care that SL was given:
  1. Start Calculator.
  2. Press Command+T to start the paper tape.
  3. Calculate 100-3.7
  4. The answer should be 96.3. If you have 15-digit accuracy enabled, then the paper tape will show 96.299999999999997. (This is a remnant of sloppy updating to 64-bit, no doubt.)
  5. Press Command+2 to put the calculator in "Scientific" view.
  6. Calculate 5^2*5^2 using the "y^x" button. (Unfortunately, they also broke keyboard input for Calculator in SL, so you can't use the caret (=Shift+6) to do exponentiation. Instead, '^' takes the nth root for some reason.)
  7. The answer should be 625 and the paper tape should show that the expression was parsed as "pow(5,2)*pow(5,2)". Instead, the answer is 15625 and paper tape shows that they have incorrectly parsed the expression as "pow(pow(5,2)*5,2)". (If you use the "x^2" button instead of "y^x" it will give you the correct answer.)
  8. Quit Calculator. Then restart it 15-20 times. You'll see that sometimes it has a dark "LCD", and other times it has a bright "LCD".

If they can't even get a calculator to work properly (it's basic, basic, basic programming, and Mac OS has had a functioning calculator since its introduction in 1984), why should I believe that there aren't deeper, more dangerous, more invisible errors elsewhere in SL?

Let's just say that I wasn't surprised when I found out that there was a bug that deleted user data.

I noticed everything deleted off my apple TV a few days ago but just shrugged it off. Glad to see apple addressing the problem quickly and sending out the email notification.

I never noticed an issue. Like the new control panel, though. Much quicker and easier than the original.

Ok - I'm now trying to rent a movie in 3.01 and it's been downloading for 10 mins (HD version) and says "ready to play in 6 hours". What!? My ATV is wired. I've never had a rented movie take this long....

Talk to the Mac OS team, not Apple TV team. They are separate and release separate updates.
Eventually it just works.

I received the e-mail but it looked like a phishing e-mail, didn't come from apple.com, and Mail.app marked it as spam. Apple needs to do better than this at notification.

That content was also on his mac, so all he had to do was re-sync the Apple TV. An inconvenience, but not a huge problem

Indeed, that's really weird for a basic calculator.
Seems Apple is growing... and more bugs are coming... now wondering what will happen when/if Apple will have like 50% market share or more. Don't even want to imagine as I think they cannot handle that anyways.

EDIT

Yes i have had a problem - the unit will not connect back to my Macbook pro. I had to disconnect from the library and re-sync.

No. It's the ease and simplicity of use. My parents, grandparents and friends who are not tech savvy have loved their switch to Mac and how well things flow with their software.

Now, on the b!tching side, Apple has to pay better attention to these little issues. I'm happy to see that they've fixed this as quickly as they did. But they have had 3 minor issues recently that could have very easily been avoided.

I'd rather MS not attack Apple. The Windows 7 commercials with the little girl were cute and seemed like they'd work. I'd rather hear about features and not about the competition.

With so many good and inexpensive media players/streamers nowadays why would anyone buy an AppleTV?
