Question about quality of iTunes Movies and why everything isn't HD

SD quality is really very good. I have a 42" HDTV and of course you can tell it's not as crisp as the HD offerings, but the picture quality to my eyes is at least equal to, if not better than, DVD quality.

The reason why some movies are available and others aren't probably mainly had to do with the studios...and perhaps slightly less toward bandwidth issues as an HD offering on iTunes is many times larger than an SD file size.

Studios want to make money selling BluRay first and foremost so some studios don't want to let their movies 'out' as HD offerings on AppleTV as it will eliminate a BR sale in their mind. Kind of funny when you think about it since an ATV/iTunes sale is pure profit for them as there is no manufacturing and distribution/shipping involved AND since BR is of better quality (1080p vs 720p), some videophiles may STILL buy a BR copy.

Not buy them.

I now only buy a movie if it's in HD, with iTunes Extras.

And I make sure to let both Apple and the movie studio know that they lost a sale by not having it available that way. (One iTunes Extras movie that I 'boycotted' that way was later put up in HD, so I bought it.)

iTunes Store Request for Apple, and whatever generic feedback form I can find for the movie studio in question. Or, if it's a movie I really want, I'll write an actual paper letter to them.

Dude, you're a genius. I'm boycotting too now. There's so many movies I want, but I'll resist for the sake of HD. Mr. Fantastic Fox and The Departed are prem-o titles that SHOULD be HD.
