Hi,

I have a MacPro here with a 4870x2 connected, (using Apple's mini onboard PCIe 12v rails to supply power) in slot 2. (1x 24" Dell connected via DVI)
OEM 2600 is in the 1st/bottom slot. (2 x 24" Dells connected via DVI)

I Decided to upgrade from Leopard to Snow Leopard, but am having a hell of a time getting the 4870x2 up and running. (PC side is obviously fine)

A couple of questions...

First of all... anyone got the 1-core driver active and happening so far? because I just assumed that it would be, considering it worked in Leopard.

Secondly, do I use the same instructions/howto that's for hackintosh's over at this forum?

I have tried the above, (both the "accel" download and the updated instructions/downloads to no avail)

At the moment, a vanilla install knows the card is there, as the "Arrangement" tab in the Displays System Preferences is coming up with 3 displays connected at 1920x1200, but the Dell screen connected to the 4870x2 is black. (orange standby light on)

After applying the updated instructions from the above link, I get a corrupted array of horizontal pixels just after the grey Apple logo on my 2600HD connected Dell screen. Other 2 displays are black during this and the whole machine is locked up... (not KP'd but screen sharing is not available either)

If someone has got this happening, could you please carefully outline your procedure step by step and also include links to files you used to get this card happening in 10.6.

Cheers,

R.

Here is the ROM file...

Hi Cindori,

Have attached the ROM file (R700.zip) for you.

I used GPU-Z 0.28.
It lists the 4870x2 twice so I'm assuming the rom file is identical for both GPU's...

Cheers,

Are there any news about 4870X2 modified roms? I thought it won't be possible to create a EFI 4870X2 rom...

wasnt talking bout roms, but modded injector

roms might work but really not much interest, card will act as a single core anyway cause lack of xfire drivers

try this with Kexthelper (first remove all your old crap)

If the card works singel core in OSX but double core in WIN, then it is fine for me :)

Still not happening...

Hi Cindori,

No luck I'm afraid...

MacPro 10.6.2, fully patched via Apple's Software Update, booting in 32Bit...

Used KextHelper to install your Natit and ATY kexts in the x2.zip file...

ASP shows them as loaded, hence I have the "core 1" string appearing and not the generic "Display" like before.

I have tried with 2600 in PCIe Slot1, 4870x2 in PCIe Slot2 and Vice Versa.

The only difference in the above that I see is when 4870x2 is in slot2. The Displays System Preference registers a display connected to the 4870x2 @ 1920x1200. (it registers this whether a display is physically attached or not)...

I read somewhere that the 4870x2 should be in slot 2 with the 2600HD in slot 1... Does this matter?

mmm, what else can I tell you...

oh:

Using Console, I see in "All Messages":

Code:
...
22/02/10 11:58:43 PM	kernel	BARi: Phys:90000000 len:268435456
22/02/10 11:58:43 PM	kernel	BARi: Phys:A0000000 len:268435456
22/02/10 11:58:43 PM	kernel	ATY_Init: ATY,bin_image not found, init will not be done
22/02/10 11:58:43 PM	kernel	ATY_Init: devid from binimage - 9441
22/02/10 11:58:43 PM	kernel	ATY_Init: ATOM BIOS Rom:
22/02/10 11:58:43 PM	kernel	ATY_Init: Calling ASIC Init
22/02/10 11:58:43 PM	kernel	ATY_Init: ASIC_INIT Successful
22/02/10 11:58:43 PM	kernel	ATY_Init: Card initialize completed
22/02/10 11:58:43 PM	kernel	DSMOS has arrived
22/02/10 11:58:43 PM	kernel	** Device in slot: SLOT-2 **
...

init will not be done? I'm guessing this is the reason for the 4870x2 not coming alive...

Also, about 20 lines further down I see:

Code:
...
22/02/10 11:58:52 PM	kernel	display: Not usable
22/02/10 11:58:52 PM	kernel	ATY,Motmot: Not usable
22/02/10 11:58:52 PM	kernel	ATY,Motmot: Not usable
...

which is "weird"... considering the display obviously works fine when connected to the 2600HD (DVI)...

Well, I hope this helps...

Hope to hear from you soon,

Cheers,

R.

4870x2 in a MacPro SL...

Yeh,

I did post on his site before here, but I noticed that there has been no activity on that particular post/blog for quite some time...

Oh Well,

Looks like I'll have to ebay the 4870x2 when drivers for the 5870 come along...

Cheers,

Sorry for digging up this thread but is that both DVI's or just one???

Both DVI ports worked.

However, on 10.6.3 the same setup is a bit flakey. Occasionally I will get kernel panics during boot up. Booting through single user mode usually fixes it, although I have had a few kernel panics after exiting it and the fans rev up to 100%. Not sure why it works sometimes, but others it doesn't.
