Hello everyone.. longe time reader and a first time poster.

I am looking for software to install on my 6 year olds Mac Mini that will do filtering. But I would also like to find something that creates a custom menu. Maybe something that comes up and she can click something to see Disney, something else to access a game.. etc etc. I dont want her to have access to the desktop or settings. Something that we can control what software she accesses.

I know this may sound crazy and controlling, but i am tired of having to fix everything because her curiosity kills the computer! And she was searching for "doggies" on google, and you cant imagine the kind of sites that can come up... or maybe you can. Even with safe search on, there were still some sites that come up that a 6 year old doesn't need to see.

Any suggestions as to software that will accomplish what I am trying to do?

Well, in testing those controls, they have proved to be quite worthless as far as filtering.

I can use the max everything on the filters, google the word sex, click on any website, and the site comes up. So.. there are some flaws. Plus... those controls only work in Safari, they dont seem to work in any other browser.

You could limit the applications your child has access to.

Have you used MRoogle for looking for similar threads?

Maybe change your thread title to something more descriptive like Looking for good parental control software for Mac OS X.

Yeah, I know. But that does not fix the entire issue. I know there is software that does this, I just dont know what it is called on Mac. I used it a long time ago on Windows, but on Mac I have not had to. Now that my little girl has her own computer, I need to get this issues under control because I cant watch her all the time online and when I am away my wife is trying to take care of 4 kids alone. So.. her hands are full at times too.

keep our child safe.

well, if you want to monitor your child's activities on the internet, i think porn filter will be a good chance since it can block any porn, bad, violent websites you selected before.
However, if you want to keep track of your child through his mobile phone, mobile spy will be your another best choice.
I also use web filter to help me keep my child safe. i think it is desent.
i wish my experience will help you a little.
