Microsoft today announced the release of Office for Mac 2011 version 14.2.4, which brings support for the Retina display on the new MacBook Pro released in June.
We're happy to announce that Office for Mac 2011 (version 14.2.4) now supports Retina display for Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook. Text everywhere is incredibly crisp and all key areas of the interface are now sharper than ever. We hope you enjoy this fantastic software experience!

Beyond Retina display support, the update also brings a number of other enhancements for Outlook, including calendar event reminders, Mountain Lion compatibility for signatures, and fixes for several other issues.

I gotta hand it to Microsoft. Between genuinely coming up with a new/different OS experience in Windows 8 (Not an endorsement outright), and quick updates like this, they're at least trying again.

Damn. I'm sure Pages looks amazing as well, but now Office users can enjoy full retina as well. I'm pretty much in love with anything made for retina, especially applications like this that people tend to use a lot. I'm sure this is going to look amazing, and hey, you can't have Office look that great on a PC laptop!

The update isn't showing for me.... Odd.

Also, didn't they just say a few weeks ago they wouldn't be updating Office for retina?

Hopefully everything works fine on my end, since I did the trickery and added in the "open in high resolution" code I to the TextEdit file.

Anyone think I should revert to my old copy before updating?

Saw the graphic in this article and the jagged edges on the Office icons and thought "that's....their idea....of retina??"

Great news!

We seemed to have been led to believe, by Microsoft, that a Retina update wouldn't occur until the next version of Office (2013/2014).
