Quote:
Indian astrologers are predicting violence and turmoil across the world as a result of this week's total solar eclipse, which the superstitious and religious view as a sign of potential doom.
But astronomers, scientists and secularists are trying to play down claims of evil portent in connection with Wednesday's natural spectacle, when the moon will come between the Earth and the sun, completely obscuring the sun.

If the religionists in power tell their brainwashed flock that an eclipse is going to bring doom you don't particularly have to be an indian astrologer to predict that there's going to be some insane behaviour.

Woo hoo, I get to recommend a story!

http://www.wattpad.com/1032-Nightfall-Asimov

If that's the full book I apologize (blocked through my internet now). You can try to find a copy of the short story on the net somewhere...

The basic plot is that a civilization that has been constantly illuminated is faced with a time of darkness.

remember that one. very nice.

for some reasons another sci-fi short story (Bradbury's All summer in a day (link to doc file here) comes to mind, akthough it is not about an eclipse.

Very cool, thanks. I'll load it on my ebook reader when I get home.
